Nope. He’s always been a big Newcastle fan.
Do you know him mate? It’s one of those things he’s never said publicly and only ever seen on here and twitter etc. his Dad is a mag (but goes to the games when Rigg is in the squad), but nobody ever seems to say “yeah he’s a mag” in the reports

To be honest at 16 but having been at sunderland pretty much all of his mature life, he may well "support" both clubs. I don't think "supporting" is the same for kids that are attached to clubs in the same way they would be to a normal 16 year old.

either way, if he's happy to tell the press he's a sunderland supporter then its enough to not see him as a "massive newcastle fan"

This is brilliant news !

it’s clear to see the lad is passionate on the pitch mind. There’s always a boost in the crowd when Rigg comes on.

Almost brought a tear to the eye when Bennette triple pirouette's, led to a cross to the back post, where Rigg rose like a salmon to bullet a header back across the flight of the ball and into the back of the net v Southampton. I also almost lost my voice as well...

Apparently a verbal professional contract has been agreed with Rigg which he is due to sign in June when he turns 17.

That's absolutely tremendous news if true.

He's also not going to feature any more for the U18s, and will be training with the first team permanently from now on.

Apparently he's also a Sunderland fan and wants to captain the club one day, despite his dad being a newcastle fan. Again no idea if true.

All via James Copley at the Echo.

Would be excellent news.

We've got to get him some minutes now.

If he’s over £10mill now the mags can’t afford him anyway :emoticon-0136-giggl

Not until they sell their stadium naming rights for a bajillion Saudi Blatts (universal unit of currency that's not the Pound) to a company not at all affiliated with their owners except for being owned by them as well and the FA snap their own neck looking the other way too quickly.

The club stayed a few weeks ago about Rigg that he was still very much part of the first team squad but that they needed him to play more games of 90 mins to help build his stamina and that was difficult to do if he was to play first team games every week which is the reason he is on bench sometimes and not others. As fans we really need to be careful with our very young talent as they can burn bright but often fail to live up to the expectation and I think with Rigg the club are being sensible, however I am expecting to see a bit more of him in this second half of the season.

wish they’d be more sensible with jobe. Think it’s starting to become a problem now tbh, he’s bang out of form.

Agree, but at least he had the football nous to move to the left, dragging a defender away, opening the space for Clarke to lay the ball off to Rusyn for the equaliser.

I’m not slating the kid as we seen how good he can be at the start of the season and he has flashes in every game where he’ll do something good but he’s bang out of form and one or two good moments a game isn’t enough to be keeping others out of the team for me.

Everyone can see he's tired. More mistakes, higher risk of an injury. Even those pushing for him to start every game must be able to see it. The kid's only 18, he'll be finished before 30 if they're not careful.

For most of the season so far he's been pretty solid stats wise and has justified being picked, last few games he's been one of our worst rated players and he'd been heading that way before that.

Just mentioning it because I'm assuming we're picking players mainly based on data and if his doesn't improve rapidly and soon, I think he'll get the rest he needs. Especially with Styles available shortly.

Yeah I was going to say that. There were a couple of times against Boro were he did something very well or vet intelligent. Even out of form, his class can still play a part.

He does need a rest though imo

I know his Dad. There’s pictures of them together on his social media in their NUFC onesies from just a few year back. He’s definitely black and white.

We are from the same area. It’s well known he’s a mag.

He used to go to loads of newcastle games n posted on his instagram about Newcastle so is def a mag. However, he stopped posting anything Newcastle related when he started training with the 1st team.

His mum n brother are both massivr sunderland fans appartently

Ah right. Qualifies the fact at least. Hopefully he’ll realise the error of his ways!

Doesn’t bother me mind, but the draw of your supported club could be massive, even if he’d probably play 12 minutes every 3 months for them!

I believe Rigg will go where he thinks will gove him the most game time and exposure.

I'm sure his parents will have been talking to the Bellinghams about it

My nephew knows the family well and says Chris and the dad are mags fans. But his mam and little brother are Sunderland
