Bristol City chiefs need to match Robins' bravery after losing out to Middlesbrough and Stoke City

Bristol City need to show bravery in the January transfer window
    https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/b...r-losing-out-to-middlesbrough-and-stoke-city/

Lansdown Jnr, take note, you sacked Nige saying we needed to make progress, you employed Liam Manning with a bellicose introduction stating moderate finance is available and our team was worthy of a top six finish, here we are 8 weeks into his task, 2 weeks into a transfer window, having just achieved a magic away result against 6th place Premier side West Han Utd, our only signings have been a youngster for the U17's from Guernsey and an Irish prospect for the U21's, other Championship sides have taken action to challenge in our league, we appeared to have stalled.

In your usual dullard, timid way you seem to have gone dozey, where is the froth? where is the fury?, no information, no communication, no leadership from the top level and so far no progress on signings, we seem to be going backwards .

There is something about our club that puts players (and agents) off coming to us.
Maybe it’s our lack of Premiership pedigree?
    Maybe it’s money?
Maybe it’s a lack of confidence in the corporate plan to get to the Premier League?
Maybe they don’t like Bristol as a city? (Unlikely)
Maybe they don’t like the (successive) managers?

… or a combination of the above?

    Our stadium is fine
    Our Training facilities are fine
    Infrastructure is fine
    Pitch is great
    Owner is rich
    Great catchment area

    It must be something else.

In my humble opinion we may well also have a reputation within the game as an unambitious club

Starting to wonder if we need another left footed CH. What happens if we lose through injury/suspension Dickie or Vyner?
Atkinson not even on the bench for the U21s against Bournemouth today.

Don't think we were ever in for Cundle, Azaz is a bit of a disappointment but if it was a straight choice between us and Boro I can reluctantly see why. We just have to work harder to make City a first choice vs them. However there will always be a club further up the food chain.

    Stop being sensible. According

According to James Piercy we was never in for Cundle

We are still in single digit dates of the month with three weeks remaining and yet it’s seems panic station for some.

TIME FOR SOME NEEDED ACTION!! ............. title of the post, but has more than 1 action!!
The first game of most "new" managers tends to have a bit of a "big rub off" of the that achieved by the team in their last game performance. SO lets forget the QPR 0 - 0 DRAW AND WE HAVE 14 games thats 42 points [ and a squad which gradually "got better from injuries recovery" ] so top 6 needs at least a average of 1.6 pts a game, or better.
LM has brought a more attacking faster paced game [ agree or disagree!? ] also 3 good cup results so far and a fourth game next week which will swell the coffers!

BUT .. WE ARE A CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE THAT NEEDS TO BE PUSHING FOR TOP 2 OR TOP 6, so how are we doing? Well 1.14 pts a game team in 21st actual season average is 0.97 pts a game, we are currently on course for a 58 point season but 3 of the bottom 4 have had a good January window!

    PERSPECTIVE..
We have Middsbro and Soton could easily lose them both! ...
    Blackburn v QPR
    Huddersfield v Sheff wed
    Sheff wed v Brummies
    QPR v Norwich
Soton v Huddersfiled! ... wrong results and the table will be squashed into 7 teams being just 10 pts apart

I have been saying on this site for years that we are an unambitious club that haven't got a clue what we want to be if ever we grow up. The owners clearly either don't have a clue, or their business plan is to build apathy to new heights, because it is clearly evident to us lot that major lies and predictions are the order of the day. I think Liam has been sold a bill of goods that aren't what was advertised on the box when he was hired but by now, despite his attempts at positivity, he must surely see what a load of manure he has landed in and if yesterday didn't highlight the vast gulf between us and the rest of the pack I can't think of what else is needed to get the point. Our play over the last 5 games has netted us a shockingly bad 2 points and so our better play has led us down the path to nowhere again and when you look at who we face over the next few weeks I seriously fear for our and Liam's futures. Having us be the only ones who talk about what we see in front of our very eyes offers no potential as we are only the mere plebs who pay their money and show up to face the music. Any specific Lansdown makes no difference to what has gone on in BS3 because they will run the club their way whilst feeding the same old ****e at the public expecting them to be baying at the gates waiting to get in to watch the same old predictable rubbish. I have also said, and it was mentioned on here yesterday, that the TV cameras didn't show up to televise a Bristol City match, for a change, because they actually only came because Leeds were playing. We were shown up for how bad we really are yesterday, and after a transfer window where essentially we did very little to nothing, I don't expect to see anything different over the immediate future and that smacks of apathy and disdain towards us at the worst possible level. All of these small pieces that arrived with some hype have all gone to sleep and not one of them showed up to be counted yesterday and looking at the body language on display I am tempted to say that they all have lost the plot, and that includes Liam Manning. When I saw his resume and the clear lacking of top notch playing and coaching I regret to say I saw some kind of writing on the wall but was more than prepared to see if he could make that much needed change of playing attitudes, but unfortunately he hasn't achieved that or even close. The only positive that comes out of this much fanfared change of coaching is that the real culprits have come into plain view again and their lack of accountability proves both their culpability and guilt. Shameful.

Thanks angelic but isn't it so frustrating to be back at ground zero every season?

It is but we’re used to the way the club operates and despite the stadium and facilities having drastically improved, I truly don’t think we are any closer to having top flight football in Bristol than we were 40 odd years ago since our fall from grace.

The rhetoric is still being spouted by the dictatorship in charge of the club. but the fans can see it for what is it
    Just empty words

I see Jr (Dumbo) Lansdown has disappeared down his hole again, grabbed all the headlines when he took revenge on Nige, spouted promises about top six and money to spend, now, nowhere to be seen.

While I was watching the game yesterday the pro-Leeds commentary team were very gracious in praising the developments made to Ashton Gate but also made comments basically about how the team has never caught up with the those advances in infrastructure. Comments were made on many occasions where we shoot ourselves in the foot by poor decisions, especially the lame attempts to clear our penalty area where our passes went straight to a Leeds player most times, and that we looked mesmerized by their slick passing. Yesterday's watch was mind numbing when you consider how well and truly we were given a lesson in how to play the game if you want to win and if you combine that lesson with the apathetic approach our players took when their collective heads dropped and never came back up for air. I was thinking that our play was starting to look better in most of the matches since Liam came in to change and yet the points gained were not in line with the better team shape which seems a bit off to me. All of the chatter coming out of the office is a waste of time, that is when there actually is conversation, and I tend to believe that another couple of defeats without a goal scored will truly put the cat amongst the pigeons in regard to where we go from here. There is only so far any manager can go before they run into the Lansdown Wall of ignorance and either give up and enjoy the ride to unemployment or leave on their own accord, but why ruin your retirement? Going back to the day that Steve Coppell left in mysterious circumstances left me wondering which interfering idiot was destroying any chance we had of becoming a more decent team and now the jury is well and truly out and the verdict has been handed down. You know who and I know who is the biggest detriment to our going forward and it isn't any player or manager but rather the know-nothing puppet master pulling the strings. :headbang:

Realistically what can we actually do?
We live in a cyclic routine due to FFP. Steve Lansdown is not able to flash his cash even if he wanted to without either suffering 2 seasons of austerity (which we’ve just emerged from) or playing ‘chicken’ with FFP and gambling on promotion making us exempt.
Some clubs (Leeds, Villa, Forest) gambled and won. Others (Derby, Reading) lost.
Leeds in fact gambled twice and soaked up the FFP points deduction the first time round. Maybe we have to grow some balls and do that too?
Added to the above; we don’t have a football pedigree - which is why players we chased like Gale, Dack and Gray would rather go to the likes of Burnley or Bolton amongst the abandoned decaying cotton mills where the sun barely shines and rain is almost constant, instead of playing their wares in our fair city.
As i said, what can we do?

I wish I knew but I don't and as you rightly say we can't fall afoul of the FFP mob. The saddest thing for me is I'm not so sure that our owners ever had intention of trying and it seems as if the momentum was lost for SL when he lost the fight to build the new empire at a brand new facility.

If the management kept quiet, and reigned in the tiresome rhetoric about 'a top six budget', 'getting to the Premiership' etc and just let the football do the talking (or not), then supporters would at least be comfortable with what was going on, and would have lower expectations.

But over the years, they have been their own worst enemy for delivering empty promises, and I have no sympathy for them,
