National publications and talk shows making reference to it, saying it was beyond belief.

Seen it in the athletic, BBC national and the usual rags. Also sure I seen it across international publications. So yeah, was wide spread and every fan base was mocking us.

PR wise, it doesn't get a load worse TBH.

This was always going to be one of two things for some people.

    A) They'll close ranks and no one will go in the stocks!

    B) They'll find a patsy to put the blame on!

Either way, in the minds of some, the entire club has to be totally to blame for eternity, for what they think was an international scandal and disgrace ...

... it's not except in their minds, 99.9% of the world barely noticed and it's never been mentioned again.

The fact that an employer isn't entitled to sack someone for stupidity, or pillory them in public, seems irrelevant. Paying to go to the theatre doesn't entitle you to have someone named and shamed if the show goes wrong ...

... going to watch a football match is no different.

Sorry to have to say this but, sometimes folks, it's none of your business.

I think I'd prefer that we didn't employ people that needed to learn that letting your local rivals decorate your own bar in their ****e is a bad thing.

This thread needs to be locked and people need to move on.

As for "national embarrassment" - not one Mag that I know has made reference to it. People on here care way more than the rest of the world.

It's not of the fans business how the club is run, operated and is out out to to wider sporting world ?

You're going to have to veto any fan reaction in the future to anything ever then. As usual, it's the fans that are the most important thing in a football club and when the clubs PR is damaged, the fans have an absolute right to want improvement and ask questions, making it out business.

If you take that stance, the ownership can do whatever they like to the club, and you would never ever have a right to question why. Sorry like but that position is totally incomprehensible.

Aye. Fine for locking it. But mags I know still regularly drop messages in group chats, send memes and make comments.

So no accountability at the club and not allowed to talk about it here?

    Aye, that'll solve everything.

Would it be a new thread when similar happens or will we just reopen this one?

Because we've heard nothing officially or unofficially. Unless you count Bob's post this morning.

That's not what I've said and I've no intention of endlessly repeating it, unlike yourself it seems, or entering into the '2024 all comers hairsplitting contest' ...

... of course supporters are entitled to their opinions but sometimes it's simply against employer law to sack someone or publicly punish them.

Paying a few quid to watch football matches doesn't give anyone that entitlement ...

... take it or leave it.

And yes, sadly, 'the ownership can do whatever they like to the club'. The Mags found that with Ashley and again with the Saudis. Seriously if a few nasty comments are bothering you that much it must be awful, the Mags have an awful lot more to be ashamed of.

What we discuss on here has got nothing to do with solving anything, its just a place for us to vent or discuss all things sunderland

For me something has to be done, we need to drive standards on n off the field to be the most succesful club we can be. These things do take time to resolve though and at the minute teh on field stuff does take priority until the window closes

I dont think we need to know the ins n outs of what has happened but i think we deserve to know that something has happened and it wont happen again due to new measures being put in place

The people at my local, in Fife, now watch all of Sunderland's games and it's usually the first thing they mention when we walk in. The landlord always comes over for a chat and I take a bit of stick if we've lost ...

... but, hand on heart, no-one ever mentioned the BCB despite the game being screened on the pub TV.

Even if it was I'd laugh it off and hit them with something back, that's how football has always been.

You know as well as I do, if the club do that it won't make the slightest difference for those demanding action ...

... they'll simply dismiss it as bullshiit <laugh>

Their colours were taken down as quickly as they were put up, and the Mags didn’t walk into a black n white hall of fame. Any way I’m not here to argue and I don’t want their colours in the BCB but for me a mistake was made and rectified pretty quickly. I also haven’t had any stick from any Mags about it.

What if there is no one internal to be held accountable?
The most likely scenario remains that the agreement was for neutral signs, and someone external took it upon themselves to supply the non-neutral signs to the installation contractors.
What can the club do then, other than not use those contractors again?

I thought it was one of the contractors that took the piss and took photo’s before we realised and put it right. As wind ups go it was a beaut if that’s how it happened.

I've thought that all along. Someone had the opportunity for a wind up and took it.
