Think he’s just too old to move properly for a professional goalkeeper. Not sure he’d have got there anyway but the footwork for the first is like something out of Sunday league.
At the time I thought it was unstopable, however looking at it again there's no foot movement before the dive, it's from a standing start.... a step to the left in anticipation and he has a better chance of saving it...... I know Armstrong had by general consensos a good game but those 2 chances he missed 1 on 1 with the keeper was Sunday league standard.....Keeper shouldn't have had a chance with the first and the 2nd he has the touch of a cement mixer..... both poor for a profesional footballer.....
I get the feeling that Begovic, Cook and Colback only came to us because we offered the best contracts. I don't think that they're here for the football and they don't give a monkey's where we end up. They're just looking for their final payday. Unlike the seventies when we had McKlintock, Mancini, Hollins, Venables and Webb onboard. All veterans of the game but still wanted it.
Pleased I'm not alone. Their first goal wasn't a worldy - a better keeper would have saved it. As for Armstrong, he does give us a threat with his pace and strength, but by **** he's poor on the ball. .
Probably the only contracts. Cook was regarded very highly at Forest, mostly playing in a three, and you can see why sometimes. Not much use when the **** is injured half the time and he’s not even that old.
I think we look better when Cook starts. My daughter ( former season ticket holder) is a manager at Nando's and is a manager at the Addlestone store. Jake Clarke Salter turned up there after the game. I said why don't you get a photo with him? She said no dad, he's a loser and after today's result why would I ?
I was at the game today. Here are my thoughts good and bad on some of the performances. I thought we played well and were extremely unlucky. Lets start with Armstrong. I can't believe the criticism some people seem to be giving him. Yes, he missed a couple but... he worked his socks off to get himself in those positions. Did Les Ferdinand miss chances too? All strikers do. He is working hard so as far as I'm concerned, he more than deserves his place in the starting eleven. We all know that he is not prolific but some goals will come if he continues to work hard. The one player I would criticise is Willock. He is such a frustrating player. So much ability, yet he rarely produces it. Did anybody notice how easily he lost the ball at the side of Watford's box before they broke and scored their second goal? How Willock stayed on the pitch after that, I'll never know. I can accept players missing chances but simply not being arsed to chase back when you lost the ball so easily is unforgiveable. I like Colback as a tackling midfielder but jeez, he is a red card waiting to happen every single game. His side footed shot should have been buried. Marti kept him on the pitch too long. I would have subbed him at half time. A couple of players who have been getting stick lately, Dykes and Dunne. I thought both of them had decent games today. Dykes played more deeper than normal. When he plays up front on his own, he is like Bambi on ice. He tries to hold the ball up. With him deeper and Armstrong ahead of him, we have some pace. Hopefully both these players continue to improve. Begovic is another who is receiving criticism. People seem to forget how many chances he has saved this season. Only for his saves, we would be in a far worse position already. For me, he has probably been our player of the season so far. The next two games against the Wall and Huddersfield are critical. I am not resigned to relegation yet. We need a minimum 4 points from those two games. As long as we close the gap from 5 points before the end of this month, we have a chance. Plenty of teams have escaped from similar positions. Hopefully we can start a run soon. I am away for the Millwall game. No doubt we will win lol.
There are a bunch of us from over here who have season tickets and go to most games. I have been going for most of my life so not going to change the habit of a lifetime 999's.
Begovic should have done better for the first but the other week he pulled of some superb saves. Colback missed the biggest sitter of the game, Armstrong fluffed a couple of one on ones, yet put a similar chance in against Bournemouth. Dykes scored a tap in that we have seen him miss before. All fine lines and all lines that we were never near a couple of months ago. I thought we played pretty well yet we lost. The improvement is there to see by even the shortest of sight.
That's all positive Bob but the bottom line is the figures don't lie that we've won 5 out of 27 games this season and are shipping goals a plenty. The Board, the Manager, the new CEO surely have to grasp the need to get someone in who can put the ball in the net otherwise all the nice football in the World isn't going to save us from Div 1 The Board need to step up and bring someone in, obviously on a free, because til now it's not happening and we have to be realistic and accept that
Some people were quite critical of Armstrong's finishing but I don't think those 2 one-on-one situations were easy. The first chance, keeper closed down really quick and he was under pressure from defenders. The second chance, he was coming out of a challenge and had to try to compose with pretty much no time.
Yep agree with pretty much all of this. If Willock put in an ounce more effort yesterday that could have made the difference but he didn't and gave the ball away far too often.
Only just seen highlights. Another game of 'if only'. If only Chair had been a millisecond faster. If only Armstrong had taken one of his chances. If only one of Livermore's shots had been blocked or taken a deflection. If only Dunne's shot had gone in. I was at the Watford away game and clearly a very, very vast improvement over that offering. Is it enough? Time will tell.
Two things. Armstrong’s clearest chance was the free header which doesn’t even make the highlights reel. The second one on one was very difficult for him as it came to him via a deflection. Those of you thinking Begovic should save that first Livermore effort are living in Cloud Cuckoo Land. On that basis every game should finish nil nil.
You are not at all. It was well struck but not hit particularly hard/fast. I thought he should have got to it too.
Fingy, I understand national affiliation and all that, but are you seriously comparing Armstrong to Les Ferdinand? Personally I’d be tempted to take Anton Ferdinand in attack rather than Armstrong…..2 goals in over 40 appearances is not missing ‘a couple’. It nice to see fans stay positive but it remains a fact that this is the latest iteration of a squad that has lost more games than any other league team over the last ten years, including losing more than 50% of all the games we’ve played in the last two years. My patience is wearing thin, but I admire yours…..
It's a funny old game. Strikers are meant to score, keepers are meant to make saves. Be great if there was someone out there with the pace and power of Armstrong who was clinical Infront of goal.................Haaland?
