Raya I accept, but I'm surprised you don't rate White and Gabriel. Both have been consistent players for us over the last 2 years. Obviously I appreciate they've not been amazing in recent weeks (White's been playing too much and is reportedly playing through injury due to our lack of depth at RB), but they're usually dependable players in our team.

Anyway, as for the game this Sunday, not particularly confident. After the last 2 results and performances, it won't matter what team you field, we'll lose to anyone playing like that. The game has taken on more importance for us considering we're (most likely IMO) out of the title race, and Arteta's diabolical record in the cup competitions since winning the FA Cup in 2020. So he'll be under pressure to go far here. That said, I'm not seeing enough from the manager or the players that makes me believe we're going to dispatch an in-form, motivated Liverpool side - even if they are without Salah or Endo.

I suppose we'll see. Cup competitions can sometimes produce upsets....

salina is 100 times the players Gabriel is. that guy has a mistake in him.

white attitude is in question but he's also a cb playing rb and thats why I don't really rate him

I'm fully confident you'll put in a hige home performance

Saliba's the better talent for sure, but I'd argue this season, he's been more consistent than Saliba (though generally both have been good and struck up a good partnership). Gabriel made some big errors at the start of last season, but he picked up form and has generally been good since then. I do think he is a bit underrated by rival fans because of the huge impression Saliba has made. But he's still a very talented centre-half.

To be fair, when Trent is your right-back, I wouldn't be too keen on other fullbacks either <laugh>. He's an incredible talent to have and he came from your academy too. What a player.
White was one of the top 5 RBs in the league last year though, which is impressive considering, as you've mentioned, he's a CB by trade.

As for your final comment, I suppose we'll see. They've got a lot to do to win me over though. I thought we'd left performances like the Fulham one back in 2021, but apparently not. My confidence has been knocked quite a lot by it.

My expectations this season were top-3, a cup and Champions League quarter-finals. If we don't manage that, serious questions of the manager need to be had.

you are a shoe in for that qf, cups need luck. you've got the home tie here and that can carry you through. we both got a horrid draw.

5 points off the top after 20 games with 18 games left is not out of the title race. Especially considering those above you are:

us: who are fighting on four fronts, have our star goal scorer off to Africa and all our full backs are injured.

City, who normally would be a shoe-in for the title and I do expect them to turn things round still, but they've not been playing great this season.

Villa, who few expect to be so close to the top come seasons end.

Far too early to say you're out of the title race.

Only two PL games in January with the second being on 31 January when he may well have returned.

I don't think he will.

the group is piss easy. there's one game to decide it v Ghana.

if they win they play 3rd placed team so would be almost assured of qf and then it'd 120mins plus pens time again.

if they finish 2nd then they play a 2nd placed team that's the only real scenario in which he is back by end Jan.

I hope Egypt at least have the sense to rest him in easy group games (play 60) and then not knacker him totally in grinding to a final again

We are to play Arsenal twice at the Emirates within a month, I have the feeling that we are going to win one of them. I want us to win the league one.

City aren't a shoo-in all the time. We've been a single point behind them twice and Arsenal should really have beaten them last season but faded badly. City are always favourites, obviously - and that's still true this season.
They'll finish strongly so you have to be ahead of them going into the final third of the season and hang on like grim death - if they get their noses ahead it's curtains.
If we can keep grinding out results we have a chance. Arsenal play nice attractive football going forward but aren't ruthless enough imo. Villa are dark horses and I'm not sure what to expect.
I don't expect anyone else to trouble them.

they are as their defensive record is terrible and they are losing players to afcon and asia. they are only 6 points down but if we are not respecting villa who look hard to beat and have goals in them then why would any one respect spurs who've known issues.

they are not out of top 4 discussion yet though.

The big thing for me is when will city come on strong.

This.

Just as they aren't guaranteed this 10 game winning streak everyone keeps on saying is inevitable

The only year it didn't come we did it and won the league. They've won 3 leagues in a row now.

People who "predict" or call things "inevitable" can smugly say that in 5 of the last 6 years it happened so they'll be right more often than not.

last year they won 12 in a row then didn't bother to turn up for the last 2 games to prioritise their treble.
the year before they won 12 in a row before Christmas and then didn't repeat it after Christmas as they were merely unbeaten with 3 draws and 9 wins in the last 12.

in 20/21 they won 12 in a row and then had a very mixed end as they just cruised. with 5 losses in 10 games.

there's a good reason why people are waiting for this to hit!

Sure, but there is no guarantee...

Hopefully they buy the hype that it's inevitable and keeping waiting and waiting.

absolutely none. I'm just pointing out why some people are making it out as being so.

what we know today is the big run as not come in the first half of the season so they are running out of time to deliver it.

I don't know where city are at right now or where they will be when the games starting coming thick and fast but I do know they've an easy run of games coming to build this momentum so if they **** those up it'd be great.

No, but normally they are. If you look at an "average" season they're the one to beat... and they've looked like that team at times this season (when we played them, they were by far the better side despite it being a draw). They have, admittedly, looked very poor at times this season too. The talent is obviously there with City, they have the ability to be the best... The motivation might not be present though.

They have to be considered favourites, but sure, they could blow this season.
