I'm unsure what to make of our style of play at the moment.

Centre backs hitting it long, but its to gakpo or salah, neither have the pace to go past a player or run in behind. Yet we have Darwin, who is incredibly quick dropping deep.

Yes Darwin gets caught offside alot, but (and I know it's a radical suggestion) maybe try to actually play him in quicker, rather than taking three touches.

More and more mo is getting played through from a break away, he's the furthest man forward, but he's no longer quick enough to stay in front of the defender, again just possibly wouldn't it be better if nunez was that man?

I wonder if mo has just a little bit to much sway in how we play, if we are accommodating him, to the deterement of others.

Watching utd tonight, arsenal in past games, they play like we used to fast break, overload the defence. We look ponderous by comparison

we played completely differently (imo) against West ham as gomez stayed high and wide. both cbs had an put ball to their outside and we could drop endo to a proper kind of playmaker role as well.

we played quicker as a result.

I agree about being ponderous. People taking too many touches to pass or pass it short and square.

you could throw the ball wider quicker but it'd go quansah to vvd then put to gomez and by the time it's there burnely have shuffled over.

I keep saying it but trent playing infield just compresses the team into 2/3rds the space and makes it easier to defend.

Just to put it out there. Endo is the only player to start our last 5 games. He’s growing into it but he’s available and putting in a shift every game. He might be that played that just gives us a solid 7/10 every week. Nothing spectacular but just a steady Eddie in the middle of the pitch alongside more up and down player in Szobo

It’s all well and good saying have to play quicker but with the schedule maybe the players just need that bit of a break and slowing down play a bit. this time of year is horrible and it’s just about getting through until back to ‘normal’ schedule and training.

I would say in terms of style.

Alot of teams have been dropping off us recently, low blocking the penalty area and allowing us to play in front of them.
Effects how we want to play.

I can understand the trent thing, but salah must then stay wide right and diaz must stay wide left to give us width. Thus doesn't happen. Salah and diaz both want to come inside, so we've got no width at all, the back line isn't stretched the opposition can defend the width of the area with the midfield sat infront of them.

Trent being a deep lying playmaker makes sense, but not with the current setup.

I feel like we've got a mish mash of ideas, but not the personal to make the ideas work.

It started with thiago, a change to a different way of playing, but we've never quite got there.

We seem to be stuck between how we play best, fast, direct attacking football and how we should play, God I hate to suggest it but tika taka football

And just to say, 1 defeat in 30 league games from this and last season and that 1 defeat was the 9 men VAR debacle against spurs - that goes back to when TAA was moved inside

Say what you want and been some frustrating games and results, on the whole this lfc team is going in the right direction.

I'll counter this.

Going into the Newcastle game after another laboured performance against Burnley, do you think the players will be up v utd flying at villa to get three points?

Once you start "managing" games it's very difficult to just turn it on again.

I felt I enjoyed watching the west ham game far more but we scored later than tonight and we were 1-0 at ht. To ight I felts we scored early and went into a play it about mode

I do feel the side could be more direct as well. Elliott for example always seems to want to go back or lateral but when he runs at space he can score like v Palace. They have bounced from shooting ridiculously 2 games ago to not shooting but passing so really they are struggling to find the balance.

I have been pondering this
I can’t make my mind up lol
But you are spot on
What is nice to know - I do think we are back to having a few gears
We are susceptible to conceding but we adept at turning games around
I just worry that we can’t do that with the top end teams but we shall see
Can’t say I am not enjoying watching us overall this season
Although sometimes it’s like torture lol

I think for that reason the goal should have stood also as Bisc said - the goalie was heading the other way so cannot see how he impeded or they gained an advantage

Yep. When I said "equally ridiculous", I was referring to the offside can being given; Salah's position made no difference at all. Just that technically, by the rules, he was offside. Much like technically 'by the rules' it was a foul and penalty.

Didn't really matter in the end, we won anyway

Really important tackle from Endo to win the ball in the middle for that second goal as well
He could very well be falling into the going to be underrated box
I think he is brill
May struggle with top end teams but won’t let his ego get in the way for games we simply have to win
Good sturdy signing hopefully

Or win success with him in the side is much better than without him. However, that could just be down to the inclusion of an actual DM rather than the player himself

The understanding in our attack still isn't quite there imo, it's especially noticrable with Nunez - can the guy speak English yet? If not then that can't be helpful, but also Szobo and Salah aren't quite on the same wavelength at times either. That'll come with time I guess.

quansah now has 915 minutes played under klopp this season.

6 league appearances, 5 europa league and 3 league cup. 3 starts in the prem

he has scored 1 and assisted 2.

as a benchmark Harvey Elliott has 1179mins and 1 goal and 2 assists.

a very very useful addition with 30 senior games under his belt.

if he was from South America or monaco he would be worth 70mil to Chelsea right now.

lavia had 36 games under his belt for Southampton remember... that's how ridiculous the market is and how lucky we are imo

i agree on the Darwin offside "problem" yes he is careless sometimes in his positioning but lots of times its because the pass wasn't made first time like it should have been

Although we didn't get the goal we needed to be sure of the win till very late on, I never felt that Burnley would score. Their team had a couple of young players running and doing step overs but the overall end product was atrocious.

Laughable that the explanation being used by referees that 'technically' Salah was offside, when he's grabbed and brought down most games which 'technically' is a punishable offence that goes unnoticed. Funny that they saw Salah last night when most games he's seemingly invisible to those making decisions on fouls etc.The Laws are written down but then interpretation, such as intent, is used in determining the outcome of an action. Interpretation was needed in the Salah offside situation instead of hiding behind 'technically'. The Darwin 'foul' to rule out Gakpo's goal was even worse. Simon 'good process' Hooper on VAR, say no more.

All we can do to combat the poor decisions is to keep winning. Delighted with the 3 points.
