If there's one position where we urgently need strengthening, it's at centre-forward. With the way our recruitment has generally been over the last year or two, I'd back anyone we're linked with to do well here. Stansfield doesn't appear to score many goals, but that's fine with me if he can hold the ball up, play well in a McKenna system, and keep us winning games.
Let's be honest in comparison to the last 20 years we've got decent back up in most positions, however we are in a position of strength and can always improve/evolve as a team but it will be a balance between making too many changes and improving the squad, on the evidence so far I'd say McKenna has done well on this. I think we could potentially strengthen all over the park, if we were to get a long term injury to one of our key players like most teams we could look a bit light weight. Like most people say a striker should be our priority, Ladapo has done well for us but we look far more laboured in our play when he's in the team. We need another striker who plays with similar aggression and movement as Hirst to take the pressure off him. I like the look of Colby Bishop who looks great at attacking the ball in the box. For me the other position which I've not been convinced about despite having 3 decent players who can play there is RB...its been our biggest weak spot all season. Other than that agree with Yorkie, I think we have missed Edwards and Leigh down the left hand side this season, if Davis gets injured I think it changes the dynamic of the team with probably Williams coming in and when Burns was injured Hutchinson did a great job coming in but we then lacked another real impact player from the bench who can pull a rabbit out of the hat especially if we're pushing for an equaliser/winner. Finally I think if we wanted to spend big bucks we could get another midfielder in as a long term replacement for Morsy...maybe we might need to wait for the summer for this...I'd love to see us get Downes back in.
Agree 100% PTC! I am sure most on here and the management know a striker is our no 1 target for January.
Downes for me would a great shout.Imagine him alongside Morsy, that would have the opposition quaking in their boots!I’m sure he would develop into an even better player under KMc’s coaching.
Not sure Downes is good enough for premier league, we need to start looking at premier league quality in preparation for next season!! Not been convinced what I have seen of him this season!! Altho as you say Bigal.....under KM"s coaching he may well improve him
Think there is a very good chance of Ladapo being sold as he has not been playing much even from the bench recently. Would be a surprise if Jackson is sold - McKenna clearly likes him and he can cover more than 1 position. With Burgess missing a few games due to international duty, would not be a surprise if a CB is added along with a CF.
Rumour has it we are after a couple of Leeds players, apparently though, they are already promoted, so the said players want to stay and play in the premier league
Doubt it. Putting a shift in only every other week because your ego is bigger than your talent won’t get you far with McKenna.
Yup, Broadie & Ladapo not up to level req'd now. Broadie has lost his feet in recent games. Jackson & Harness put a shift in, but not the level we will need to keep our attacks and shooting power up to speed in 2nd half of season, and to keep scoring hatful of goals. Taylor is no Luongo, as was shown when the latter came on and drove us forward.
