Massive risk with 25 games to go.

Sbragia won 2 of his first 3, then 3 of his next 20.

agree with this but my leaning towards it is less to do with results and more to do with the performances and tactics.

from memory Sbragia just kept things as is and more or less lucked into the wins. Dodds has full on earned both.

I would revisit that theory 10 games later if we've won 2 of them and lost 8

I hear what you are saying, but Sbragia was a well respected coach (as is Dodds) but didn't have the personality to be the top man. There may be a reason why Dodds has worked largely with age group teams and only been on the periphery of the 1st team.

On the flipside, Sbragia took a team that was in a tail spin and could do very little about it. Dodds has a team very much on the up

Yeh to be clear, I’m only leaning to it if he wants it and the club wants him. If he doesn’t want to be the main guy, then absolutely not.

every “manager” has to start somewhere. And recruiting somebody slightly more experienced is no guarantee of success, none of this is. So if he’s doing well, then players are responding to him, and he wants it and the club wants him, I think it would be a good fit.

You're assuming he has not always been earmarked as a potential future head coach for the club. We specifically sought him out from Birmingham back in 2021 as one of the leading developmental coaches in the country and considering the direction the club are heading in, where the head coachs primary directive is to develop youth, he fits into the role extremely well.

    Your response is reactionary.

the club has also consistently talked about succession planning and internal pathways for both players and coaches.

It’s pretty clear Dodds being given the job longer term was never the intention. But there’s absolutely no harm in “reacting” to his success. Opportunities like this come out of nowhere and him taking advantage of his may well be rewarded.

Personally I’d like to see him promoted to assistant manager to whoever comes in. Or “Assistant Head Coach” I guess.

I joked last night, but after last nights performance I’m slightly hesitant at throwing away what he has brought to us, in an attempt to hope somebody else is “more” right.

Dodds is young enough to wait imo.

If he becomes manager we need a new first team coach which is more disruption.

don’t necessarily agree with the top sentence but your second point is a great one. Arguably easier to replace Mowbray than Dodds

    Agree completely.

Nothing against him being more involved in the first team mind, I think the tactical changes he's made are enough to suggest he could be an important voice for a new man.

Exactly, when do caretaker managers ever work out when they're given the full time role? Can't think of any.

ironically Will Still started as caretaker at Reims, did such a good job they kept him, and now we want him.

Whoever is appointed is a gamble and risk. Its up to the owner to minimise that risk by looking at all options.

Lierse made him manager then realised they’d have to start paying because he didn’t hold the UEFA badges. Record there was something daft like W7 D1 L1. Took them from bottom of the league to 2nd I think. Brought in new manager and he stayed as assistant but they went bankrupt so he left.

Joined newly promoted Beerschot as assistant and the manager left half way through season. Still took over and guided them to a 9th place finish. Owner wanted someone new in the summer so Still left, new manager finished dead last and got them relegated.

Went to Reims as assistant, manager got sacked then Still took over and they went 17 games unbeaten in the league :emoticon-0102-bigsm

If you turned it off after the first sentence then you have little basis for analysis/assessment.

The Dodds to the end of the season concept sounds fine after the last couple of games but it could rather render the January transfer window null and void unless somebody like Will Still signs a pre contract agreement. Who is going to be willing to potentially uplift their family to the North East with no clue as to whether the next gaffer will play to their strengths etc.

I'd rather we got something agreed in writing with someone before January rather than use it as breathing space to see who fancies us in the summer.
