Sunderland face competition from Liverpool and Nuremberg for FC Zurich striker Admir Mehmedi in the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old, who has scored 13 goals in 47 matches for Zurich, is one of Steve Bruce's winter targets but Liverpool have sent scouts to watch him already.

never heard of him but he'd fit in given how non prolific he seem in front of goal

So far, most 'rumours' involve Comolli raiding French Ligue1 sides and our scouts rummaging in South America. As such, I reckon one real rumour is being extended to about a dozen players by lazy hacks and ambitious agents...

Thought I would get this thread going again as we build up to the January transfer window!

Alberto Aquilani claims AC Milan will have to sign him on a permanent deal from Liverpool if he plays 25 games for the Serie A club. The 27-year-old is on a season-long loan with the Italian side after he was deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.

He spent the previous season on loan at Juventus, after a disappointing spell on Merseyside following his £20m move in 2009 from Roma.

Juve missed out on signing him permanently in the summer because the couldn't match Liverpool's asking price, but the midfielder says there is an agreement in place for him to seal a €6 million switch to Milan if he plays 25 games for them.

"There is a buyout fee set at €6 million and it is activated after 25 games," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. I feel more assured. You can never say no to Milan. I have always had the hope of becoming a Rossoneri player. I did not expect to be bought by Juventus, the price set by Liverpool [€16 million] was too high. Juve was an opportunity and I have used it well.

"It was a critical step in my career as after Liverpool I needed to play continuously. Maybe if I had not gone to Juventus I would not be at AC Milan," he added.

In my opinion, €6M is a bit low. I think we could sell him for around €10M as he seems to be doing well in Milan. But I assume we want him off the wage bill as he doesn't seem to want to come back and play for Liverpool.

By the way, i've just done a bit of research and Alberto has played 13 times for them this season in all competitions. This includes 4 times coming off the bench. So I fully expect the clause to be met and Alberto to leave for AC Milan in the summer.

Thoughts?

So much for getting a good return on the player, now that he is back in the Italian team and all.....

I could handle that. Citeh won't see us as direct competition, it would really piss the mancs off and he'd put 100% effort in. He's horrible, but I'll put up with that <ok>

100% effort until another team came calling :D Him and Swazza would rip defences apart for fun tho <ok> but not gonna happen IMO

Hate the bloody transfer windows me I've only just recovered from the last one but I hope we are looking for at least one extra striker. At least we look like we should be in a better position than last year and won't be having to panic buy.

Sneaky 8mill bid for Torres anyone??? <whistle>

Well if he was on loan, that wouldn't be an issue. In fact, it would help us. He'd have to be on top form to attract a big club to come in for him in the summer. I don't think we'd be looking to buy him.
