I suppose we are at least all used to this annual speculation Jamboree!

I know the square root of sod all about most of them and even if I did, I'd probably pick the wrongun. But a big appointment this one, as the last two seem to have been ""reaction" picks. This one seems to have been coming a while, so it's a big one.

Luckily for my sanity I don't hear owt from anyone, so I'll just wait and see. But, I did hear once!

Going back to the seventies this. I can't remember which manager had gone, but I was seeing a girl who's dad knew Doug Weatherall, the old reporter on NE football. She told me that Brian Clough was going to be the manager. After choking on my beer, I asked her how she could know something like that, as she had zero interest in sport.

I never believe it really. But It turns out later that Doug had lined him up, Clough was keen, the club were interested and then bottled it. He did this more than once and by the time we wanted Clough, ( We wanted him!!! as if we'd lower ourselves!) , he told us where to shove it. Clough was at his peak at the time of the approach and Doug later mentioned all this in public.

Looks like we are better ran now, and maybe if we see a chance we are able to take, we'll take it.

I'm tired of seculating about Sunderland's managerial merry-go-round. Mobray didn't fill me with excitement when we appointed him, yet he did wonders with our squad and gave us a great season. I don't know what happened this season, but I guess he got fired more for repeatedly and publicly disagreeing with club policy than for disappointing results.

We about to see if it was indeed Mowbray, or the players who had us ‘over performing’

If we are honest, we don’t know if we did over perform last season cos we still aren’t 100% on how good many of these players are.

A new gaffer with a goal scorer and and experienced CM and we will fly.

    We gotta get this right.

It has to be an improvement on Mogga whose departure still leaves a sour taste... too early for a beer and Saturday is a fecking early k.o. doesn't help. No time to chew over the fat with my mates in the pub pre-match. Atmosphere on Saturday might be as damp as it was at the final whistle of the Huddersfield loss.

It's up to us all to get behind the lads and roar them on. Hhhaaawwwwaaaaayyyyyyy.

He's done a couple of interviews where he talks a good game. Other than that, that's all anyone really knows about him.

Branch bus leaves at 9.30 Saturday and the pub open from 8.30 so just enough time for a quick pint or 2.

Praying for a good result as its the branch Christmas meal afterwards and a defeat wouldn't help the mood

Gerrin, hopefully a matchday for us all to remember. We are out for a drink and something to eat over the town after the game as our "Christmas" do.

We usually go before the game but these early kick offs ruin that chance and its impossible to plan / book when games are changed so often.

Bloody TV companies and their control

Horrible. Its not as if the club makes much cash out of extra TV games at Championship level either.

It's all about identifying good managers before everyone else realises how good they can be - like we did with Farioli in the summer.

I don't know much about Hellberg but if Speakman et al think he's got what it takes then I think they've earned our trust. Besides, looking purely at results, he took over a tiny club in Sweden after they won promotion and immediately got them a safe midtable finish on 37 points. Meanwhile, the other two teams promoted the prior year finished at the bottom of the league by an absolutel mile, on 14 and 17 points.

His second season in charge, he's managed to get Varnamo up to 5th in the table. I know sod all about Swedish football but considering he's managing one of the smallest teams in the league (stadium capacity 5,000), I'm going to guess he didn't have much money or star players to work with, which means the massive improvement in the team must have come from his management (one would assume).

His career is on a pure upwards trajectory so far, these are exactly the kind of managers I find it exciting to be linked with. I'd much rather someone like that than some plodder who has been around for years and whose achievements include taking Swansea City from 15th to 14th in the Championship <laugh>
