Yes. It’s just a piss poor excuse imo. Already mentioned on another post that there’s plenty of other teams playing young strikers. If he put one of them in from the start and they were on penalties someone would potentially have a minimum of 5 goals now and this wouldn’t even be a topic of conversation.
Having had some time to reflect I retract any comments suggesting we should change the manager. He has a lot of good will from last season, we are only 3 pts from the play offs and he's been dealt another **** hand by KLD/KS. His post match comments about the strikers not being ready but being forced to play them might be the start of his death warrant, but he has a point. I guess we will find out more about KLD's ambitions by 1st Feb and what squad we're left with for the rest of the season
Something bugging me a bit lads and lasses. Let me say I am the biggest defender of coaches probably, I spend enough time in that world to feel some empathy. Maybe that is my failing.
I keep seeing Mowbray getting criticised for his tactics. I dont know how many on here have their badges and done any serious coaching and game setup/management? No offence but before I did mine I didnt reallt understand patterns of play, I was just a mad bugger on the stands who cheered and loved rhe game. Wish I could still watch a game that way to be honest. Mowbray has been doing it in the pro game for 20 years and has every badge going. He has been promoted from this league and to this league. A club like Celtic thought he knew enough to give him a job. I get agitated when we call coaches on it. No problem with criticising and questioning, but I read things on here said with such authority it makes me wonder.
My sense is it is less about tactics than it is about players. I think some have hit a wall in that opposition have sussed a few out and they cant/havent been able to step up. I think Mowbray has evolved his tactics this season to try and present a different problem for the opposition. But the players are struggling to adapt. It is whether you think he should revert to last season tactics, or keep trying to evolve tactics and develop the players. Examples include asking Hume to roll into the holding role when in possession, or Ekwah sitting in, or Ballard stepping up. There are others. The players are struggling, but can they learn new things? I think so, and a coaches job is to keep working on these things with them. Tougher ask with young lads who have never had to learn, but they will be better for it and I think all can learn new tactics.
I think we are in a rough patch personally. I think players are struggling. Even Neil, who I think the world of, looks flat at the minute. It is a collective thing I think, almost a morale in the game. You can almost see them play in spells but when the goal doesnt come they go into their shells. I am off to the next couple of home games and will give everything my voice box can give to help them and give them some belief. It might just be one or two games that makes them believe again.

I never mentioned age. I asked if they are ready. Which do you think is ready?

I guess playing devils advocate, the point I was trying to make is that if they’re not ready (and let’s say they’re not), then telling the media they’re not ready, whilst regularly cycling between them, is surely not the best way to get them ready?

Fair enough just assumed you meant because they’re all quite young! Rusyn is more than ready he had about 20G+A in 30 games last season as well as playing in and scoring in Europe previously.
Not what I am trying to say. Folk seem adamant that his tactics are wrong yet he has been doing it for 20 years and has done all the training in the world to be able to do it. I doubt any of us have. So when folk say he is tactically hopeless it doesnt sit well. It is disrespectful. Bit like when people demand a second opinion from a doctor, or sack their solicitor and defend themselves, it just smacks of desperation. I respect everyones opinion on here, always will, but just pointing out that in my opinion our passion as fans can lead to a level of unreasonableness in posts.
Footballing wise I agree. I just have no idea how quickly or able he is to settle in to a new country. Complete guess but I imagine leaving behind Ukraine isnt easy at the minute.
i know what you mean. It’s similar to when people say players are Sunday league standard etc.
I’m a ref so I sometimes get a bit frustrated when I see people criticising referees for making decisions where I can see why the decision has been taken and why mistakes are made.
fair enough, I wouldn’t say he’s hopeless as he’s a professional and like you say he’s been doing it a long time but I certainly think he’s hit a wall and he’s not changing anything and it’s clearly not working!
This is an issue for sure. I wonder id Rusyn was fit whether he would be stuck with. Burstow got a fair crack earlier in the season.

I agree with your point but I don't agree with the doctors example, mate. Perhaps my doc is **** but half the time I go to the Drs they literally google my symptoms in front of me. I can't wait until A.I makes doctors redundant to be honest.

i can see felltop's thoughts but i think the problem for many fans is that they can see the same problems happening game after game and my problem is this 'soft underbelly' we seem to have now, recent games have shown we are creating chances but just not hitting the net...i think this could be down to these recent games, these young lads run rings round anyone when things are going well for them but right now they all need to dig deep and realise they have not 'turned bad' but it is just yet another learning point they have to get used to.

This is why I think it's insane to think a new manager is just going to come in and instantly we are going to be better. We might be for a few weeks but the same problems will come back. Blackburn sacked Mowbray or didn't want him and they are in a similar position under their current boss. Man utd keep sacking managers and get a wee boost and retreat. It's about recruitment matching a clear strategy and principles. People will point to Alex Neil but we were fourth or fifth when he arrived and finished around that position. He got us over line but let's not kid ourselves it was a managerial masterclass. It's a bump in a road but we need to keep doing the things we're doing and it will turn
all valid but under this argument, no clubs should ever sack any manager ever.
Ipswich sacked Paul Cook after just 9 months, and appointed Kieran McKenna. I bet they’re not currently wishing they’d seen it out with Cookie. (I’m being facetious here - but for every negative example of a sacking there’s a positive one)
Yeah of course there are times it's needed but generally it makes little impact unless you get the right players in alighted to the right coach
agreed. And I trust the ownership to find that manager if they deem sacking appropriate. They might not, and I back them with that as well
