I've been thinking about starting a Tech Thread for a while, just watched Smartphone: The Secret Genius of Modern Life about the amazing innovation of the smartphone and digital screens.
Post whatever you like about new tech and give us some tips on what's ahead of the curve? I remember the Hull lad who created the Gadget Shop and Red5. Any thoughts on AI, new social media platforms, space exploration, ev cars, var etc?

VAR has ruined football

Social media is in my opinion one of the worst ever inventions and I'd be more then happy to see it go completely.

Space exploration is something that's always intrigued me, it's just so vast and unknown, we can't be the only planet with living creatures ( in some form ) on it surely. I know Musk isn't everyone's favourite person, but I think what he's doing with space x and their reusable rockets etc is fantastic and fascinating.

AI is taking off. CoPilot is Microsoft's branding of Open AI's ChatGPT and it's integrated in all MS' tools. You have to think that any potential use to save company money will probably happen. If you spend your time in an office doing fairly mundane repetitive documents (contracts, accounts, quotes or even bid responses) then consider someone is training apps to do the job you do; or at least a first draft. Even the petty arguments on here could be created reliably with AI (they might be already!). Will be devastating to parts of the economy within a few years.

Seconded on social media, if I could remove just three things from this planet it would be that, cancer and *****philes. They’re all ****houses that do nothing but harm. That would leave Piers Morgan and the Daily Express, but gotta set those priorities.

I wish Musk wasn’t a gigantic bellend because what he’s trying to do is amazing, but I just can’t like him because he’s gone from being a modest rich person to being a loutish gobshite who spreads conspiracy theories. I think he needs therapy, some of his language recently sounds like his mental health is in the ****pan.

I got my old man a rocket notepad for his birthday, it’s like a whiteboard that lets you make notes, then instantly scan or upload to a device. Handy for people who cba with typing and prefer the pen.

Isn't AI just a continuation of decades of automation and robotics, what fields will it be truelly revolutionary in? Possibly medical and education?

Don't understand why he bought twitter or has got involved with cultural/political verbal wars... With 10 children and numerous businesses, can't see why either are worth his time.

Social media is avoidable, unless you mean the impact it has on others.

Steven Toast, your thoughts on social media are quite... intense. I get the frustration, but I also think social media has its positive aspects. And Heimdallr, your point about Musk's involvement in social media is valid. It's a bit bizarre, but I suppose he has his reasons. As for AI taking over most office jobs, I think that's a bit of an overstatement. Sure, some jobs will be automated, but I think many will simply evolve.

Overall, I'm excited about the future of technology. I believe it has the potential to solve some of the world's most pressing problems and create a better future for all. But we need to be mindful of the potential risks and make sure that technology is used for good.

I was a corporate member for a few years.
Cool place and we did get a few useful bits just by chucking some food and beer on and inviting the proper tech people down for a natter.
Fastest broadband in the UK at the time (and much faster than other countries) so people were there from all over the world.

Best tech used isn’t new but was an iPad with an Apple pen and software to turn my scribbles into text.

Im a scribbler so tend to make notes in meetings and found it great to just change my scribbles to text and email them to whoever it was relevant for straight away.

Im no doubt way behind what is capable now though.
