He confirmed my long thought opinion that he's a headless chicken type of player who just gets a bit lucky at times in front of goal.

Granted he had no supply and little support yesterday from his teammates, but even his scuttling (and he does scuttle doesn't he when he runs?) around our back four caused them no problems when before the game I was expecting a few dicey moments when we pass it around the back-four.

Quite glad we didn't waste money on him.

Exactly what I thought when people were saying we should spend millions on him. He's not a horrendous player but all of his goals come from the one thing he does better than others - non-stop running. He only did well against us last season because his non-stop running was at Seaborne who had an off day.

If you compare him (God forbid) to Rickie Lambert it shows how one-dimensional he is when he's not in possession. He never chases back or picks up the ball in midfield going by yesterday's performance, which is one of the reasons Rickie's so invaluable to us. As Dave Merrington would say, Rickie is DC!

Agreed with all the above. However, I suspect he'd be a far more effective player in a Saints side. He looked isolated in that Brighton side, and barely got a sniff.

I said he would be a joke if we bought him!

He failed big time in Championship last time round so was likely to be the same again! <laugh>

    Looks like I was right!

Closer to £1m, he may have been worth it, but on the whole I'm glad we avoided him.

He showed a couple of seasons ago that he couldn't hack it in the Championship when Peterborough got relegated back to L1 - nothing appears to have changed
He is an excellent L1 striker but only an OK Championship striker so should do well playing for Scotland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He'll have to enjoy playing for Scotland while it lasts with a younger and arguably better striker in Jordan Rhodes up his trumpet

In terms of his effectiveness, he should have stayed at Peterborough. Saying that I agree he would be better scuttlingabout at Saints than at Brighton. He needs to be in a side that generates chances and pulls the opposition to get on form, a lot of his goals last season showed that's he's a perhaps a £2m striker.

I think he's quality and could fit well into our team. We've got no real pacey striker, apart from Connolly, who is getting a bit on to be called pacey.

Shame we didn't snap him up.

If we don't get someone in in January, we could have a real problem on our hands, as there is real risk from Lambert not being able to play.

Having said that, with Barnard coming back he should be up there scoring by mid-December, and provide more options up front.

    COYR!

I'd love CMS in the Saints team! He'd create absolute havoc in a red & white striped shirt. <ok>

I would never want CMS in a saints shirt. He is a tw@t! Not to mention all he does is run run run like a headless chicken. I would have loved it if someone took him out yesterday (whilst winning the ball of course!).

CMS once fully trained the "saints" way by Nigel would be a great addition to the saints squad ,he has a heart as big as a lion ,and in defeat he never gave up that to me says a lot !!

Can't say we've missed the pace myself. We'd want some in the PL when we want to sit back and play the counter more, but our current gameplan doesn't really need it.Players with pace and quality aren't easy to find outside the PLand they usually come with quite hefty pricetags.

Mackail Smith isn't even a good finisher, he misses a lot of good chances and is normally in the right place at the right time!

Never wanted him here, always been a hit and miss player.

That's not an accident. His instincts are right. Yes, he might be overrated at £3.5M, but with the right guidance and training, he might have been worth the price tag. It isn't going to happen anyway. He's at Brighton now, and he's never going to play for Saints. That's his loss, far more than ours.

If you have a natural strikers instinct and are willing to carry on learning you can be Ricky Lambert. I would trust Nigel and his team to get more out of any good striker with the right attitude. And the right attitude is the important part of that sentence. Don't know anything about CMS, but I suspect he'd be having more joy at Saints than at Brighton.

There was no doubting the work rate of CMS, but stuck out on the left side for a Brighton side showing little attacking ambition did not suit him and as for the defensive side, this could be the tactics but Fraser Richardson would see less space on a trek of the Sahara.

As I said when we were mooted to be interested in him. I don't see him as being better than Barnard and no where near Lambert. Decent player, but not an improvement.
