It'll be Bird if anyone, won't it?

Though Adama and Ozan's recent contributions (though limited) from deeper might be seen as decent enough cover until summer at least

I'm sure we'll be looking at him if we are looking at CM, you're right Adama and tufan both did well there, but I don't think either of them will ever be consistent enough players wherever they play

Tufan's been pretty consistent when fully match fit, though hasn't played so much in a deeper role. Adama less so overall this season - but he has been moved around a lot and seems more consistent centrally as opposed to being asked to play as an inverted wide player, to my eyes anyway.

I accept they are a bit unknown in that deeper role cos those 2 berths have been pretty much sewn up by Seri, Slater and Morton so far. Both Tufan and Traore have experience playing there at different stages of their carreers though.

Just because Doc hasn't progressed as much as we would want doesn't mean no League One players work out. Could point to Sam Clucas as one example of a player we've picked up from League One who not only has worked in the Championship but has then progressed to the PL.

1 - where did I say no L1 players work out?
2 - I used doc as an example.....hence why I said "for example"
3 - I never said Doc didn't work out either, just that he isn't a top end champ player ( which we should be aiming for and the reason he'll be going soon )
4- why the hell do you insist on still trying to twist people posts to say something they didn't say

Why bring up Doc at all then to diminish the potential signing of Bird? It's irrelevant, which was my entire point.

Yes, you brought up Doc as an example of a player who played well in League One who didn't play to the level required in the Championship (i.e. work out for this season..). In turn I provided an example of a player that did work out when signing from League One. The point being that you can't judge a player purely from the league they sign from/played well in.

Why do you insist on turning any simple response to you into some annoying back and forth? I think if you judged the post not the poster a lot more then you'd save a lot of pages of discussion on here.

2 different players at entirely different stages of their careers.

Both proven at L1 but has Bird shown more potential at this level?

I think we know Doc's strengths and weaknesses by now.

He's SPL/lower champ/upper L1 standard which isn't to be sniffed at and is undoubtedly solid as a backup option this season - but Bird has age and potential on his side.

He is probably proven currently at the same level as Doc, and is technically more accomplished but with much more time to develop.

That's a lot of sentences for "I agree it was meaningless to bring up Doc".

You replying to me there or Howden?

Because the future of CM for us certainly isn't meaningless - unless you wanna rely on the luck dip of PL loan kids for a longer term recruitment strategy.

As for me I'm trying to address a legitimate point that yourself and Howden have brought up in your bickering - probably inadvertently it must be said.

But hey ho, if you 2 wanna get your dicks out again then I'm deffo getting out of the middle of it...

So those 2 deeper central starting spots we currently have Seri, Slater and Morton - maybe Tufan and Traore at a push also but given we lose Seri and Traore for effectively 6 weeks for the AFCON, would you get another in or rely on Doc coming into the starting picture at a crucial part of a potential playoff season?

Especially as we likely lose Morton in summer and Seri isn't getting any younger - so long term it leaves us with Doc and Slater and a less reliable Seri?

Do you think all of the areas where we currelty rely on loans for starters need reinforcing by summer? - because the truth of loans is the better they do the less likely they are to sign if they're coming from the big 6?

    Genuine questions.

It's a position which needs to be addressed long term. So why not January? Why shouldn't we talk about it?

... and before you start anarl - I'm half replying to what you said but kinda throwing a question out there more generally also...

Hope you can see past the fact I don't intend you to see it as a personal slight to you in light of the above.

Share your views, it's just footie chat and no need to get personal.

    Don't be a Syd. <cheers>

I was replying to you. You agreed that they're two entirely different players. Bringing up Doc as some sort of example for why Bird wouldn't work is no better a comparison than bringing up Matt Smith for a reason why we shouldn't have signed Delap.

I never said the future of CM was meaningless, I said the comparison to Doc for why Bird won't work is meaningless. <doh>

Not really. They'd both likely be much of muchnesses whichever option we went with in Jan in terms of the current season.

But where's the smart money at?

It's almost as if you're trying to argue against the idea that the club might make a strategic decision for the long term - Doc for Bird - purely for the sake of it.

I'll leave you to your OCD.
