Yes, and pretty much for this reason. I always like his versatility. And then of course there's the whole local lad thing.
Agreed. 12 months or more ago I would have had Surman back in a heartbeat. Not anymore. Don't need him. Not even sure it's a bit of a shame either.
Adkins looks for raw material, then tries to turn them into Southampton players. Surman was good for us and has a good attitude..wouldn't complain if Nigel saw a future for him.
I`d have any player back, if Adkins wants them. Surman had bags of potential maybe he moved on (forced out/cashed in) too quick.
I agree could be an Adkins kinda of player. But I think he would have been a signing for this season, the way thing are going

Surman is a smashing lad and did more for Saints when we were in deep trouble than most fans realise, but his best position is left midfield and he's not in Lallana's class.
Too one paced, no bottle and highly overrated. Only good at clapping all 4 stands at the end of the game.
