I think Bob was criticising Southgate for playing Maguire. There is no one to replace Kane imo. We're producing outstanding young players, but none at centre forward unfortunately.
Toneys probably in the best position, despite his ban, which sounds stupid but the others aren't exactly pulling up trees. I don't mind Watkins as a squad player but he will struggle to make the 23. I wasn't criticising Southgate cos we only have kane, I was criticising Southgate for picking the same old players despite them either not being in form or not even getting in their club team. I thought young Rico was decent last night. A player I would definitely take due to his comfort in many positions. An attacking line of Rashford, Kane, Foden and Saka is as good as any countries. It's the defence that worries me.
I thought Eze at his best would have made England a whole level better last night. I kept falling asleep only to be woken by the Commentator shouting about nothing, but England looked like their engine needed oiling. Little fluidity on show and the players mostly looked hungover. Saka looked well off form, Grealish all trickery on the left but little came from it, Foden a few great moments but largely invisible. Saw Chiesa play for Italy against Ukraine- he was a cut above anyone in both games.
Good news from Cork. Sinclair Armstrong sccores again for Ireland U21's V Italy. That;s two goals in two games for him for the U21's. Currently 2-1 to Ireland after 64 minutes.
To finish the story, the U21's game ended 2-2. Italy scored in the 96th minute. At the end of the game, there was a shamozzle between the two benches. Guess who got booked? The subbed Armstrong was right in the middle of the scuffle. He needs to learn how to control that temper and to cut out those silly bookings he keeps getting.
Aussies have a win against Palestine. Souter, who can’t get game time at Leicester, scores the goal….. nice.
That was from Tim Sherwood. At first he said he was in tears as he went off, but later said that he walked off and looked comfortable, so who knows? As you say, fingers crossed.
