Wants ex pros helping out the refs and a five point plan in place.

1) Set a THIRTY-SECOND time limit for decisions to be made
2) Stop using slow-motion replays that often make incidents look worse
3) Change the offside rule so there must be daylight between an attacking and defending player and introduce the semi-automated system
4) Allow refs freedom to use common-sense and end the era of “robot officials”
5) Appoint an independent group of ex-players and coaches to operate the technology

Five looks like a recipe for a dust up. Pros dont agree on anything and wont agree with 3 because they will argue about the daylight favouring man u.

No need to change the offside rule just apply it sensibly, point 1 will help with this, if a decision can’t be made within 30 seconds go with the original decision

Think there is if you want to get it right in 30 secs if you want it sensible. what is sensible? and if its wrong after 31secs there will still be moaning like a bastard and going at refs and var.

Nothing is perfect but if a decision can’t be made after 30 seconds it isn’t a plain and obvious mistake. There will always be mistakes however long decisions take, there are too many variables
 
back in the day! .. there was 3 officials, and the decision of the ref was final. the linesman indicated his interpretation of an offence and the ref if he saw it agreed and game continued If ref missed it or was unsure then either took the linesmans view or if he was partially unsighted might ask the linesman for a comment. Game continued and was usually subjected to comments [ after and during ] by fans of .. "ref needed glasses / we was robbed/ no penalty / a penalty"

SO today in the age of prima donna's and vastly over paid players we have VAR ... and 5 SUBS !?!?!?!! ... lightweight balls and almost perfect pitch's throughout the season! So why do we need ref's other than to maybe spray a white line 10 yards apart from time to time and indicate that the ball should be placed correctly! or that a foul has been made, or a goal scored,.
A dozen camera's or so with a panel of say 3 VAR REF'S in a nice warm room could be in charge of "blowing the whistle!" and maybe 1 or 2 others watching the whole pitch for off ball incidents . All in separate non inter communication booth's with 7 - 10 sec's to make a decision agree with or disagree with or spot something the ref missed! .... needing 2 from 3 to blow the whistle! outside the 10 sec game continues!

Often there is a melee so the game may stop for 10 -20 secs or more whilst players remonstrate so opportunity for 3 VAR to rewind and check. [ BEAR IN MIND THE NEW TIME EVERYTHING to give ET of up to / over 10 mins etc]
 
I’ve said on a number of other VAR themed threads that VAR could be an asset to the game if it was applied sensibly.
- The ref on the pitch makes the decision. He can request VAR if he wishes (like in Rugby or Cricket)
- If a player wishes to challenge a referees decision then he can request that the ref looks at VAR - under the threat of a yellow card for time wasting if the original referees decision is upheld following the VAR consultation.

This would cut down on a lot of cheating IMHO and VAR would be employed as a refereeing tool, rather than the referee’s master.
We also wouldnt need to wait for VAR to affirm every decision.

Simples.
 
Just to add - a mate of mine is a referee in the National League South.
No VAR
He goes into the dressing rooms before the game, introduces himself and says to the players something like
‘over the next 90 minutes I will make a couple of wrong decisions. So will all of you. We all make mistakes. I’m no exception - but I get most of them right. Please don’t argue with my decisions because I will not change my mind.
When there’s a 50/50 then I’ll award it (throw, free kick) to the defending or attacking side - whichever you prefer - say now before the game starts. ‘

Graham loves refereeing and has hardly ever had any issues. He talks to the players during a game too (he’s refereed me in a couple of games) - he gets the players on-side (no pun intended).

anybody listen to white jordan and keown? comedy. Keown argued that if an ex-player was in VAR the goal would have been disallowed for a push on Gabriel Arsenal v Ndewcastle. Jordan said that isn't right as Gary Neville said it wasn't a foul, Keown went on one saying that every ex-player would give a foul. Jordan then said well if that was the case why did ex-player and ex-manager disagree on talk sport disagree. Keown was still giving it an ex-player would give a foul, and when he realised the evidence was not what he wanted he went down the route of claiming bias and a vendetta against Arsenal.

Put that in running VAR!!!!

Back in MY day JGF, the goalposts were marked by jumpers and there was no crossbar - but you wouldn’t believe how many times the ‘bar’ or the ‘post’ were hit!!!!

yep the posts were often "closer " together and the jumpers well spread .. goalie was tallest in the team!!!! of course sidelines were arbitary! ... centre spot always closer to the team that had just scored ........
