So you have finally followed the example of Jack Charlton’s Irish team selection. If you ever had a tin of Irish stew, visited Dublin or had a relative who was a first cousin removed from your great granny’s uncle’s half sister in law you got the chance to pull on the green jersey.

I’m not sure how well you need to know the sheep however! :emoticon-0115-inlov

Blimey, that's a turn up for the books.... Not sure he's really international standard but then again we are still regularly using Joe Morrell so shouldn't complain I guess??

TBF there were lots of rumours about a couple of our Welsh youngsters being targeted by England too, despite them representing Wales at age grades.... It happens both ways, though I will admit, I'm still peeved that Kevin Sheedy ended up playing for the ROI rather than Wales!! :emoticon-0105-wink:

I thought you always had your parents or grandparents as your reason for qualifying for nationality

Id also like to point out there’s been ethnic people in the valleys for decades

Nothing to do with ethnicity nor the valleys aber, and I think you're right about those qualification criteria.

Just pointing out that as a country like other small countries I suppose, we tend to scratch around looking for players who through their own choice would have followed on their junior national selections, but who were obviously considered not good enough.

Nothing wrong with that but it demonstrates the huge gulf in available talent to the national side.

Exactly. <ok>

International breaks are always a bit tedious for the more club minded fans - a thread of any description is worthwhile for a chat.

It's up to individual members to post them, comment on them or not, but without the need for any woke suggestions of ethnicity bashing. <peacedove>

I agree ……we should be looking at everyone who qualifies……but not like rugby lot do it <laugh>

I'm sure if he slips Noel Mooney a French letter and outlines his reasons why he's passionate about pulling on the jersey he'd stand half a chance.
 
He has a Welsh father but decided to take his Zimbabwean mothers route to international football but Andy Rhinomota must be getting bench sores. Flown all the way to Rwanda (bit topical:emoticon-0138-think) to sit on the bench again for the 90 today.
 
My dad was born in Barry (Holton Road). My grandparents were both Welsh and retired to Pembrokeshire (Moylegrove near Cardigan).
My sister and I used to stay with them every year in the summer and I even attended the local school for a term whilst my parents were having alterations done to our house in Bristol.
I’ve also drank several pints of Banks’s beer in my time.
Shall I dig out my football boots and clean them up?
I haven’t played for 4 years mind - I’m 56, with a beer gut and a bit slow.
I recon I could still put in a half decent cross though - with either foot.
It would be nice to get an international cap before the sun sets on my playing career for good……
