They should and perhaps they'd get things under control before it's too late. But they won't and it soon will be.

It's all in the name of " community cohesion ". The Muslim Council of Britain, who actually run the country, not the elected governments, use it to get their demands carried out. It's a very useful and successful threat, that violence will erupt if they don't get their way. The UK is way past saving, and it's only a matter of time before the barbarians take over, and the country becomes an Islamic State. We are already well on the way to that destination.
The silent majority are quietly furious and when pushed to far will first turn on the traitorous leaders that allowed this to happen then push back at all the craziness that's been let out of control for decades here. They can all look out when the fight back really starts, there are massively more of us than them for a good while yet !
I wish I could share your optimism, but the " decades " you refer to have come and gone, with little response from an apathetic public, who have been sleepwalking into the calamity that is Islam. Vast swathes of the UK have been already yielded, and that swathe grows by the day. The UK is trapped on a spiders web, with the dreaded Islam sitting in the middle, like a giant spider, sucking the life out of it. Elected politicians , both Red and Blue, don't seem to give a damn, so there is no leadership, or desire in/for, any struggle. The British backbone, so gloriously evident in the past, seems to have been incised. Remembrance Day is fast approaching, and I despair when remembering the sacrifices made by the many millions who gave their lives to preserve us from our oppressors. It would seem to have all been in vain, as the new oppressors have invaded whilst we have been sleeping.
Mr. Murray makes my case very well, and is one of the lone voices. His voice is calm and lucid, but who is listening ? To quote him, " Europe is committing suicide ".
Yes but he does allude in his last segment to what is likely to be the conclusion, that is the public because of no government leadership will take to the streets in fighting back as there will be no other option to protect everything we hold dear ! Murray's book the strange death of Europe is a good read.
The French are more likely to take to the streets than the Brits. The British public are more concerned with the goings on in the appalling, so called, premier league, and are far more likely to take to the streets over VAR, than over the muslim invasion. Don't rely on the Brits now, they have grown too fat, and idle. I have the book you refer to. That's where my quote comes from. It's the very first line in the book, if my memory serves.
We shall see, but I don't see brits surrendering to the invaders and allowing all that's been built over centuries descending into a full 3rd world **** hole that they want and came from.
But it's already happening, and has been for years. London, Bradford, and many other Northern towns, Birmingham, Slough, Bristol, Luton, Leicester. All the above are now predominantly muslim enclaves where the police dare not go. Sharia ( Law ) dominates the muslim world, to the detriment of British Law. FGM is rampant. So called honour killings ditto. Mass rapes of white girls. Etc.,etc. Where are the street protests ? The surrender is well under way. Muslims are outbreeding the indigenous population, and the figures dictate that Islam WILL eventually take over. The only thing in doubt is - WHEN.
