I certainly remember plan a, if Scott stays, and plan b if he goes, that BT stated, then went back on.

the core comment, and it was used by NP / RECRUITMENT was that NP had a budget of £??? whether or not AS WAS SOLD. That was the simplicity of it. AS stays then SL pays... AS goes whats left of fee - minus original budget promise .. used to pay off debt [ ffp ]
Having extra money after he went was never in the equation!

Listen again, he contradicts himself, says they had a budget, wanted to get business done early before the sale of Scott so clubs didn’t inflate prices, totally get that, he says we brought 5 players in, which isn’t true really the 5th was because McCrory is out for the year, also forgot to mention the ones that left, so we’ve actually got a smaller squad. Also said there wasn’t money available from the sale of Scott, but then said it would be available next year, when strangely enough other clubs will know we’ve got money, so presumably will up their prices.

They want promotion this year, that’s why they got rid of Nige. let’s look at that. I will hold my council until we see who they appoint. Bearing in mind the quality, stature and achievements of the manager we just got rid of. I’ll be judging this decision on whether we make top 6.

I maintain had we brought a couple more players in using some of the Scott money, some of which is apparently going to be Available next season, we would’ve been able to continue the form that took us to 8th place and a couple of points off the playoffs. Instead over use of players due to squad size has meant we’ve a large number of injuries. That’s a decision the board made, instead of owning the decision, they passed the buck and blamed Nige.

As soon as Scott went and no bodies were bought in I suspected that’s what would happen, and low and behold it has.

6 players left, in the summer. So technically on paper one player less. But out of those six includes Taylor Moore, Kane Wilson HNM and Tomas Kalas. How many of them were available since January?
We even loaned out Bajic in January and went with only MOL since then. Probably like this season is that GK is the only position you can emergency loan in the closed window period, if needed.
Yes imo injuries have ****ed us over the past few games. But it’s a choice they all made to go with a smaller squad.

Before Scott’s sale I agree, they had to cut their coat accordingly , but not to bring more experience in with SOME of the money for his sale was suicidal. We all saw how pissed Nige was with that decision, so I don’t agree he chose not to.

Bored of arguing now. For the record I never wanted Nige to go, but it’s happened now and there is nothing I can do to change their mind. What I don’t buy into is that he is or was the greatest manager out there. He done a great job of cleaning up the mess from the previous managers. But I don’t think that was all down to Nige.
I remember him saying in the beginning that he is building the foundation for another to take us to where we want to go. So I’m waiting for the next one to come in and we can finally stop talking about the last lot and comparing fans views etc.

Had to be the right players though, I’ve not been wholly convinced of the signings we’ve made in the last 12 months or so.. .. not sure we’ve had that quite right. I think Nige was trying to do the right thing and bring them through the academy.. trained in such a way of how he wanted us to play

I hope you are right, but if the next manager isn’t successful in at least getting top 6 I’m sure this topic will return. This imo is not a popular decision and may come back to haunt us, I hope I’m wrong.

I agree to a point, a few have been disappointing, but it’s difficult when you buy L1, or L2 players as the gulf between the them and the championship is massive, some adjust quickly, some less so, and some never manage it. In fairness that’s as much down to Tinnion and the recruitment team as Nige, as they all have an input.

Problem is Ashton, recruiting from better leagues would hike up the wages taking us back to where we were, that’s why we dug into the academy. Pretty logical really

Agreed, I understand the logic of what we’re doing and agree with it, but there are downsides too, which are what I explained.

I actually think in terms of players when back from injury we're not too far away.
I agree it could be a couple of quality players short of making a proper challenge but I also believe our tactics on the field hasn’t always been right either..

There are always going to be a certain amount of players unavailable for whatever reason, I don’t think we have enough strength in depth to challenge over a season. As for tactics, you can’t please all the people all of the time, football is a game of opinions, you’ll never please everyone. Before the injuries kicked in we were 8th, two points off top 6, that’s not too bad surely?, IMO it’s our home form that’s the issue. If our home and away form was reversed it would be a different story.

:emoticon-0148-yes: :emoticon-0148-yes: :emoticon-0149-no: 5 to 6 mins is totally correct as to what was part and has been over the past few seasons ...get it done early before ASc sale double thumbs up but didnt mention the reasoning as to where the money would come from if ASc was not sold. so a thumbs down for that!
You can see why there was a holding out on ASc being sold ....

It is a base for future use ... going back when asked seasons ago SL stated [ when we were vying for promo ] money would be available if we got into prem, although didnt say it would be if we got close! [ was after GJ AND wembly ] ...

base is the key! all your thoughts on number of players in / out etc are fine.. spot on ... but you need to encompass the whole package, and accept there was a plan and it was applied. No purchases [ big ones after ASc left the room! ] .. as inflated requests for payment would be asked for!!!!

When we sit back becomes the problem with the players we have imo.. when we play on the front foot with a high press we are so much better.

Agree, also recently the lack of defensive options has been a problem, with Dickie as our only remaining specialist central defender.

That’s how I recall it as well, and NP knew it, and accepted it.
