I think it's great that it was outside the box, just to piss poyet off! How the referee didn't give a penalty in the first half when Lambert was being man handled is a mystery. Also at the back post in the second half, someone was clearly obstructed (not sure who), but all these offences are given on the half way line so why not in the area?
I thought we should have had at least 4 penalties. Brighton were still complaining which is laughable. And for their player to get sent off for dissent for the first goal is a disgrace if you consider we should/could have had at least a couple of penalties awarded before that happened anyway. Peter Walton has again produced a shocker today (following his performance when we beat Leeds 1-0 in League One, still the worst performance ever seen at St Mary's). A proper ref today we'd have won by 5 or 6 and Brighton would have finished with less than 10 men, they were embarrassing today.
What really summed up Walton's performance was that he blew the whistle for the 2nd penalty to be taken while Harper had his back turned to Lambert!!!!
lets make a tally of penalty shouts: Foul on Fonte, given (outside box?) Trip on Lambert, given Lambert pulled/thrown to ground Hammond taken down by Harper Guly obstructed Lallana obstructed (possibly outside box) 3 handball shouts any I've missed?
You've got to remember Walton was refereeing in the Premier league the week after the performance vs Leeds. Embarrassing
Defo outside. Walton will be further humiliated as they show this several times on replays on FLS as its the main game
I was sticking up for a fellow ref - I wish I hadn't bothered now. I'm a better ref than Walton and I'm a level 7!
I don't think you get a penalty for obstruction, or have they abolished the indirect free kick? I think you got most right, Hammond was brought down by the goalie, the Ref bottled it, he would have been forced to send the keeper off otherwise.
