Seriously I’d encourage you to vote. Honestly I’d rather everyone vote, even you. Democracy is bigger than any party, if everyone decided not to bother we’d really be in a mess. The fewer people that vote the less relevant democracy becomes and that really is very scary.

A fantastic pair of results which will herald the end of this dire Tory administration. If Labour can overturn a 25k majority in Mid Beds, where they have never won in the century-long history of the seat, then they can win anywhere.

I'm a bit like Ashton here, we are a democracy and if the majority vote Labour then that's the British people deciding and I go with that, I dislike Starmer and the Labour wishy washy way but don't forget, if they fail there is always next time, I don't think the British people are finished, regardless of their mix, the majority of people in this nation are hard working and pay their taxes, as has often been said we are a nation of lions led by donkeys, I didn't vote for Sunak, I think he is a smoothie but has calmed the storm.

AT THE LOCALS in an attempt to oust extremely wasteful Bristol CITY COUNCIL I always vote. £bn's have been wasted over the past couple+ of decades and what have we to show for it............ third and fourth attempts at traffic flows .... [ one was by a highways officer that didnt drive a car into Bristol?? ] other infra structure built = not fit for purpose so demolish/ abandoned at great cost ... assets sold = where did money go supposed to have alleviated council tax bill but it still went up by max allowed [ pretty much always does. Where I live the boundary of BANES is part of the "estate"I live on some houses [ in same road! ? part of it ] pay less CT! But use same services!!!!
We in Bristol have a part time Mayor who awards lucrative contracts to companies he is a director of, we have a part time Mayor awarding contracts to big business where there is clear conflict of interest and the council tax payers foot the seed capital of tens of millions to not build an arena at Temple Meads, we have a part time Mayor whose projects run tens and tens of millions of pounds over budget, we have a part time Mayor who gets juicy pay rises during a pandemic .. He is Labour.
As a Labour voter I would disagree with you on culture. The capture of institutions by woke ideology is not right wing. Critical social justice is left wing ideology and phenom. The culture war with Labour in power could go into overdrive.

An interesting fact is in both recent bi elections the numbers who voted Reform were actually greater than the Labour majority. Had they voted Tory instead the tories would have held both seats. Maybe RR if you want to avoid a Labour government don’t vote Reform.

There are 650 seats so who gets 326 is the winner with a majority of 2 [ plus those from NI that do not take their seat!
We are an impatient nation need to know the result ASAP! so proportional representation tends to be "shunned".
I wonder what would happen if the ballot paper said VOTE for your MP then gave a second choice? [ where applicable votes added to first choice! option of 2nd choice is you do or dont ]
The voting system is a whole different debate, it is what it is, nothing is perfect, is there a better way?, possibly, who knows, there are flaws with every system.
BOUNDARY COMMISSION tries to keep the overall number to vote as close as possible ....however population has grown from 50 million to over 60 million, but not spread evenly over 650 seats, COMMENT sometime back in a discussion was there should be another 40 50 seats generated! minimum voters / heads of population ] for each seat being 40,000 maximum 70,000
Bristol has a population of about 475,000 [ edge areas encompass outer areas so around 500,000 ] should have 7 seats! we basically have 4 plus Kingswood!!! SO 1 0R 2 SHORT FOR CENTRAL AREA!

I can see why there’s the call for change, as the last few years have been dire. The predicament is, how does it get any better, I don’t see it with Labour, the Tories, or any other party tbh. They are all as bad each other in different ways. None of them will fix the broken NHS, Welfare system, immigration, which are killing the UK.

I think there was genuine hope, optimism and expectation before Blair came to power in 1997 and even I felt it as a non Labour voter
But this time around it’s very different
The Tories have been truly awful at times, they are largely not true Conservatives and they will suffer the consequences at the ballot box next time around, but I genuinely think a lot of people simply don’t like or trust Starmer or know what he stands for

You said it, the Torries have been awful, they dont deserve to get in again, and I’m afraid the only other party who has a chance is Labour. If they win then it’s up to them to show they deserve to have won, and they’ll have a chance to prove you wrong. Being the opposition is a tireless task, no matter how good you are if the governing party do a reasonable job you’re on a hiding to nothing.
