Wasn't going to watch this but changed my mind and stuck in on tonight. My god I didn't realise how bad he had it after the world cup. I remember the dummy hanging etc... but didn't realise about him being g spat on etc...

Shows how strong he is as a person to be honest to come through it for the better.

Fantastic player and he must have been the first player to hit celebrity on that scale and I'm not sure any have come close still. Some in recent time might feel like they are close because of the world of social media these days, with Instagram and ****e but they don't ce close to what the Beckhams created.

I know it worked out well in the end but his Dad comes across as a dick!

The world's first truly global sportsmen
ie. Probably him and his Mrs and their family. Everybody knows their names etc
Even Muhammad Ali r Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus etc. didn't have that.

Just had to say this these two Becks and Posh are very similar to Harry and Markle. Whoa is me. Seem to forget what they have but continuously need to play the victim card. If your playing at the World Cup in the big boy league getting big boy wages then act like a big boy. Don't need the tantrums and getting sent off. Got to think of his team right? They need the constant attention like the other two mentioned as that is how they make their money. All four of these individuals financially have come out ok and fair do's but I personally don't need to the constant drivel and victim mentality that comes comes it. Enjoy your lives and get on with it.

If the abuse was as bad as made out in thr documentary it is completely uncalled for and goes too far over a game of football. Lucky the he seems to be the type who in that situation get his head down and proves everyone wrong as it could have ended the careers of less mentally strong players.

Totally agree on the abuse that should apply to everyone....at that level he would have to have a strong mentality so I think that is a given.
Will give him one thing that free kick against Greece in the last minute....as a golfer would say I wouldn't want that one back. Great goal!
I'm just not into the bullshit that comes with these so called celebrities'.
One hand look at me a boy from the East End.....then the other flaunting what I have got.
Just my opinion mate and I know a lot will not agree :)

He certainly had some flair, namely crosses and free kicks in sight of goal. He played for a successful club so he was in the limelight because of that although statistically Nicky Summerbee completed more successful crosses in at least 1 premiership season. No way was he the complete footballer like the Cruyffs and Messis of this world.

I had a season ticket around the time he was given a hard time, a lot of fans joined in the booing every time he got the ball... maybe that was partly due to his "celebrity" status. His missus also seems to have celebrity status which goes to show you can be devoid of talent and still make it to the "top"

I don't think the Beckham's compare to the Markle's in terms of playing the victim, they might have a few whinges but they haven't made a career out of it.

Can't say I like any of them particularly. Beckham was a great player but I never warmed to him.

He comes across better now as a older bloke but was a bit of a tit in his younger years, they both were. They courted that celebrity status!

Got the last episode to watch and two things so far haven't made sense!

They made a big deal about him hiding his skin head from Fergie, Neville saying he knew he was going to piss the gaffer off etc.. then show a clip of him runing out with his new haircut with the club captain Roy Keane leading the way with a skin head! So I'm confused why would Fergie be pissed off?

Secondly he said England fans were still booing him when he was made captain and by the time of the Greece game. As far as I can remember that bollocks, it didn't last that long?

He was an unbelievable footballer, absolutely no doubt im my opinion. 19 trophies in 19 years or something like that. Winner at Man Utd and at Madrid.

Zlatan said anyone criticising him must be jealous because there is nothing negative about his game. Figo said he was extraordinary. Schmeichal said a cross from him was as good as a goal. Fergie said he was the ultimate trainer. Roberto Carlos said Beckhams feee kicks were better than his.

What happened to him after the world cup was ridiculous. Fed by the media as usual. He came back stronger mind and showed how vital he was to every team he ever played for. I met him once with some kids I was coaching and he was a real gent. Interested in what we were doing, asking questions, talking about how he thinks you make the most of yourself and coaches then add to that for you.

I have seen better footballers for sure, but he was a lot better than I think his legacy suggests in this country.

Do you think that's down to him not being taken seriously enough due to the celebrity side?

Well, Mrs Exile wants to watch it which means I'm watching it.

What strikes me is how absolutely vacuous it all was.

Cantona's brief cameo the highlight - 'footballers.....are not intelligent'

I absolutely do not buy the depression angle mind. Everything has to be seen through the assumption that everyone is a fragile little flower who can't cope with anything these days.

He got up, grit his teeth and got through it. Like millions of normal people do every day.

****ing hell it's just got to the football over there. His first match he looks like he is sat on a metal park bench cause the set up is that ****. And some of his team mates were pool cleaners and gardeners, didn't realise it was that bad <laugh>

I loved Beckham as a footballer, he was an absolutely amazing player.
His solo performance against Greece was one of the best I've ever seen from any player.

Absolutely. He was 31 at the time, could’ve still been playing at the top level in Europe.

In my head he only went out there for about 2 seasons at the end was shocked to hear it was 5 years at 31!

He then seemed pissed off by his decision when he realised the football was a ****e standard. Made a fortune in the US though and it set him up for starting his own franchise over there.

The Mrs has watched it and she hates football. I've seen a bit here and there. Can you believe that Madrid team...Carlos, Salgado, Zidane, Figo, Raul, Ronaldo. Ridiculous.

Onto the last episode of the series now. Enjoyed it and probably forgot just how good Beckham was. His delivery into the box was scarily good.

It's madness hoe many people didn't and don't rate him. One of the best of that generation of any nationality, but because if the looks, modelling, basically creating brand Beckham his football gets downplayed.

Didn't help himself going over to LA early.

But one thing about Beckham he could get the bit between his teeth he was a game changer!
