A mate of mine is a Palestinian-American who served in the USAF in Afghanistan, who has family in Nablus in the West Bank, he was there 3 weeks ago. He cannot believe how Biden has responded so naively
US foreign policy for the last 70 years is an embarrassment. A sh1te show that only Eddie Jones can match
I know you’re not claiming to speak for anyone else and this is an unfair question, but do you think this ‘kill or be killed’ sentiment (which I read as ‘we will kill all 2.3m in Gaza - and those in the West Bank? - please correct me if I’ve misunderstood) is held by most British Jews?
I think if it’s a choice of wiping out the 2.3m along with Hamas or have another few days like the last few then yeah probably. Obviously in an ideal world there’s no civilian casualties but that’s not possible.
Isn’t this so sad. I would have thought that of all people, the Israeli’s who suffered the most unbearable treatment themselves, would have been well placed to know how to treat people correctly. I know this sounds harsh but so many people believe that Israel have brought them on themselves by decades of mistreating the Palestinian’s. this vicious cycle will never end unless a regional/works solution is found that safeguards Israeli and Palestinian needs.
Do you think that the taking of hostages made the blockade and imminent invasion much more likely though? I still completely understand Israel's response personally. Hamas and their supporters orchestrated this. They want this. They're getting their wish. An incredibly strong speech just made by the US Defence Secretary in Tel Aviv. The US are not ****ing around here.
Yea, the taking of hostages certainly heighten the emotion but it’s the needless massacre of civilians that has forced Israel’s hand. Once I heard what had happened I knew what the response would be. Israel has to show that it can protect its people and can’t show any weakness. That’s why I said all this was inevitable. I'm not so sure a full ground invasion will happen though. Thousands of innocent civilians will die, hundreds of Israeli soldiers too. A ground invasion will be the catalyst for the West Bank to kick off and more than likely a war up north with Hezbollah too. I think public sympathy for Israel will slowly but surely disappear, not that they would care at all.
That sounds pretty hollow a day after Labour supporter and financier, Bernie Ecclestone, is convicted of tax fraud and has to pay HMRC £652 million pounds, greedy ****
I’m well aware what many (a majority probably) think of Israel and that reputation is unlikely to improve any time soon but I think it’s gone well beyond caring about PR.
I don't think it was a strong speech Col, it was a speech the US had to make. And yes the US might not be ****ing around but neither are Iran and their proxies, that's where I feel the US are failing in this, they need to de-escalate the situation or risk a regional conflict. Its only the US that has the power to do that. 2.3m people in Gaza are not expendable due to the terrorist actions of Hamas, surely anyone can see that
They hoped it would be relegated to the second page of the papers after the Tom Moore daughter story got out but they’ve misjudged it.
No, they wanted this response. They don't want peace. I wonder whether the Palestinians will elect them again?
