Just seen on BBC sport that Paul Lambert wont be 'strengthening' the centre back options in January. I think I remember him saying that he will be buying a few players if the right ones are available so what does everyone think will be his primary options? I think he might buy another winger after the success of Bennett and Pilkington just to keep competition high. Potentially another striker depending on how long Vaughan will be out for. I'm surprised. I would say both your suggestions are right in terms of a winger and a striker but surely a centre back will be needed. Whitbread is very injury prone, De Laet mistake prone, Ayala very young.
Mysterious ways his wonders to perform! I know lots of other stuff too! I'm like a still river, I run very deep! So deep, in fact, that I'm usually up to my neck!
As C.Martin has gone on loan to palace im hoping he impresses so we get a swap deal of martin plus cash for sean scannell as our winger, cracking player!! As for defense, in a way lambert is right, why buy another defender when we have 5 already on the books?? Theres no point wasting aload of money on getting another defender in when we have enough there in the first place, wages especially! fans want better in the defensive area but to get better they would command a much higher wage and fee so in my eyes theres no need to splash the cash in that area. What ever PL does im 100% behind his judgement... OTBC ILWT
Doesn't surprise me. We already have 5 CB's plus R. Martin who can play there. It's not worth getting any more, unless some are let go, and as 3 are injured atm, I can't see that happening. Definitely need a back-up winger if we continue to play them both at the same time. Possibly a striker as well, if we were to let Wilbraham go. Or perhaps C. Martin returning from Palace in form would be the same as a new striker? That's possibly Lambert's thinking.
I have to say that I'm a little concerned about the defence. Someone that can marshall and organise the defence is really needed. We need start keeping some clean sheets, Barnett greater stopper but not the most sophisticated defender, and Martin still learning the trade as CB, and the only cover for Naughton.
Suprised he has come out saying this now when there are ten or so games to go until the jan transfer window I think any improvement in personnel should start at the back
I think that "I'm not strengthening the defence" can be roughly translated as "the defence have been given a right telling-off this week and they won't make the same mistakes again". Whether the same will be said after Arsenal and Man City, I'm not sure.
