You're right it doesn't really happen any more. As I understand it the reason is that statistically you're more likely to concede when you have men on the posts. Not sure whether that's because it plays all the attackers onside or because it takes up too many defenders who could be marking people, or a bit of both. But I've definitely read that that's the reason.
I think the people in North are people who would identify as singing types. Looking round, it's not quiet, shy people around me. They all stand up and when we're winning they all sing. The problem isn't a lack of singing types, it's a lack of hardiness of support in too many of them. Too easily people get fed up of whatever imperfections they've seen in our performance and singing is replaced by moaning. I know I keep saying this but I think it's the key issue that needs addressing if we're going to have a better atmosphere more often. Soon people will be suggesting drums and working groups and singing sections but none of that addresses the issue, which is that people aren't often enough in the mood to support their team.
To be honest it’s been the same as in the Prem , when fans expect to concede or are not dominating they get apprehensive almost waiting for the opposition to score fans get silent , Ideally we’d be the confident attacking side from the off. this is only a sketchy idea but… As for a bouncy song I have a cunning plan The club the fans or forum choose a range of suitable tunes pick a week to play them all showing words on the big screens , ask the ‘Kop’ to get there early try them then let the fans vote for the best singing result . Re write the words maybe later - once chosen show the words every week until the fans get it It’s not a perfect thought through idea but someone needs to trawl through years of great tunes and pick a selection to test for , ease of singing , remembering , chorus etc Or Caravan of love - but alter the word to suit the club . Or someone somewhere write a new one ! I don’t want any song sung buy anyone else that includes ‘wise men say ‘
Must admit, don’t remember that but I was preoccupied in trying to avoid getting a serious head injury!
That guy is full on. He's done some good stuff on Utube. He came last season vs Bristol City and was with the Bristol fans.
I disagree, unless you're referring to some of the top clubs who charge funny money for the 'pleasure' of watching them. I consider myself working class, always have, always will.Money doesn't grow on trees for me,many others on here and many who attend matches.
Surely some on here remember that Sweet shop on the corner ? when the windows went through everyone was helping themselves, people walking back to the train station with jars of lemon bon bons. The lack of singing ultimetly comes down to the lack of terracing and the ability to move around and stand next to others that are singing and are of a similiar mindset. It would need unreserved safe standing to at least make some type of inroads here.
That's often an issue at away games but I really don't think it's a problem in our North stand. There's plenty of part-time singers in there. We just need to get them to sing all the time.
Safe standing in Europe is not unreserved. You are allocated a space just as if you were standing. Doesn’t stop 25,000 Dortmund fans all singing on the Yellow Wall end or at the other German clubs. The thing is we have very few who want to sing. Coventry had more singing in the 2,000 fans than we had in 20,000. Maybe too many are preoccupied with analysing xGs, pass completions etc… The stewarding doesn’t help, a row of stewards stood between City fans, stewards constantly walking backs and forwards in front of East Stand then stopping to point up in to the crowd to each other. At a lot of other grounds you do not know stewards are there until they stand up when there is a goal. The Blunts have half a dozen, all sat down, in front of their Kop with 10,000 on. Compare that to how many we have milling about around 2,000 City fans in the north Stand. There was a wider segregated area on Friday night than there was at Scotland v England.
