From the definition of the word elite from the dictionary... SWR

" select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society"

you said...Most would have done their 10,000 hours of learning, sometimes known as an apprentice, to achieve the abilities required to be an artisan. Many from working classes -

They are definite an elite...and I celebrate their elitism...
Agreed Beth. Crystal clear :emoticon-0100-smile
I celebrate your views.
Just shows how you can read eight words in two different ways. Elite can be a positive too.

Apologies Beth.
Won't be accused of being something I'm not.

All I accused you of was believing that civil servants are blocking government action - something that you admit. The meme goes further of course, suggesting that the reason they are doing so has a racial basis. I never accused you of believing that.

Apology accepted.

Wasn't apologising to you ya bell end.

They're Home Office civil servants, Goldie - or at least they're standing in front a Home Office sign which would suggest that they are.

Ah, I couldn't read that. It does worry me, given that we've already seen lawyers of colour's fraudulent acts in respect of illegals. As it would worry me if successful asylum seekers were immediately given a job in the immigration section of the Home Office. Otherwise, we're mugs.

I don't think there's any suggestion that they're successful asylum seekers Goldie, or even that they work in the immigration section for that matter. It's just an image that has been seized upon by racists and shared by idiots.

Glad we are all back and calm.

And my very friendly and informative discourse on both sides with SWRanger over the meaning of a single word.....just goes to show how things can be misinterpreted by us all.

So thank you...and let's get back to friendly discussion, even if we have very different views.

I agree Beth, they all need to grow up a bit and stop winding each other up

That's encouraging, Strolls. No reason at all why they shouldn't work in the Home Office. Immigration is a sensitive area and needs to be treated as such. Even then, race and colour don't matter, so long as they are professional, impartial and have no biases or conflicts of interest.

Why would a skilled worker (or artisan) be an elitist Beth? Surely our world is made of skilled people who are able to make/create/assemble with their hands? Most would have done their 10,000 hours of learning, sometimes known as an apprentice, to achieve the abilities required to be an artisan. Many from working classes - which is hardly elitist. Just interested how you came to that judgement.
Marx referred to them as the 'aristocracy of labour' - they may have come from the working class but did/do they identify with the working class as a whole ?

You shared it.
