To be fair to her, she was apparently very good as club secretary and was seen as ambitious and competent. The fact that she was nearly on the FA committee and was listed as one of the top 100 most powerful women in world sport gives an indication that we thought she was good enough. But as the saying goes, you can fool all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. Personally I'd heard enough about her before hand to not trust her and stories of how she built up her power base and squeezed out other people were floating round for a while before her removal. And the reason it “feels avoidable” to me, is that you don’t go into a transfer window with one of your best players having less than a year left, unless you want to invite offers for that player.

And if we are trying to renew him and he’s asking to wait until after the window, we should have been actively trying to sell him weeks ago, not now.

 

I think the club said it was agreed with the player that they would restart negotiations after the iwndow closes, which doesnt seem to indicate he wants to be away, but who knows?
