Right.

So it appears that Suarez called Evra a nickname used by his united team mates.

Doesn't that mean, if it is a racist name, that the entire united club should be done for using the same term?

No; I thought not.

as far as I can see this whole used by his team mates is bollocks - it was his nickname when we played for a club in Italy around 10 years ago. As far as I'm aware the United players just refer to him as Pat.

What's that supposed to mean? Whatever context it's used in, it's still derogatory by Evra's definition.

Are you old enough to remember two comedies called On The Buses and Love Thy Neighbour? In On The Buses they had a black driver whose nickname was Chalky. In Love Thy Neighbour, the black neighbour called the white neighbour 'Honky' and the white neighbour called him 'Sambo'. Both derogatory. That programme would never be allowed on air now; and you'd never have a black character called 'Chalky'. Jim Davidson's 'mate' 'Chalky', jokes like that are deemed racist whatever context they're used in.

Sorry, but if Evra is forced to admit that Suarez called him by his well-known nickname either the entire united team will end up in front of the beak or he'll be told well so what?

I don't buy this "lost in translation" defence Liverpool and media seem to be putting forward.

It was just an innocent term of endearment was it? a thing mates call each other? Well suarez isn't evras mate, I doubt anything he had to say to him during that match was chummy and if it regarded the colour of his skin, as it seems he's almost admitted, then its rascist.

On the 22nd of October the FA ask united and liverpool not to discuss the case.
28th October Dogleash calls Suarez a "Great ambassador" and mentions the case.
3rd November Dogleash talks about the case again.
8th November Suarez talks about the case to the press.

I hope when it comes to deciding Suarez's punishment (ive already decided he's guilty) I hope they take into account his dubious character and liverpools repeated discussion of the case despite being instructed not too.

and sir alchie has been a veritable monk when asked about the allegation - he said he believes that something was said and then immediately says he would like to comment but is not allowed - if the case is thrown out should fergie be punished (given his dubious character and his repeated discussion of the case despite being instructed no to)

As far as you know. Do any of us know wtf is going on here? Not for sure. We're all going by rumour, speculation, he said, but he said, they call him, etc.

All we know is Evra accused Suarez of a racist slur AFTER the match was over. That's it. If I were conducting the FA court martial one of the first things I'd want to know is why he didn't say anything as soon as it 'happened', but I'm not so I can't.

Exactly. None of us really know what has happened and what has been said apart from the two parties and the FA (supposedly).

I do think there was been some sort of misunderstanding due to cultural differences about terms that are acceptable - however the FA can only look on things through their own rules and not what is acceptable in other cultures etc.

I've said before I don't think ( I don't know why I just don't) that Suarez was intentially racist but if he intended it or not may not matter to the FA - I don't know.

Someone posted earlier that it possibly lies somewhere between Evra being over sensitive and Suarez unintentionally saying something offensive - I tend to agree with that <ok>

What's the nickname?

If Evra's accusation is found to be baseless should he be banned for 10 games?

The fact that the FA have charged Suarez shows that the FA have already shown it's not baseless so that's a moot point anyway.

Suarez may not be found guilty but the charge shows there is a basis to the accusation, in fact even Suarez has confirmed it.

Gotta disagree Eric, not every player that goes before an FA committee is found guilty as charged.
