what's the ideal end of transfer window down for us? no outgoings bar the usual loans for kids like morton? 3 signings? 2? 1?
One complete midfielder with good tackling and distribution skills. Don't necessarily need a true #6 as we have Endo now, and Bajcetic coming back. But one more player who can fill that role when needed would be good, and can also fill in for Macca/Szob when needed. Also a defender who is good as both a CB and a RB. We've got several players who can kinda play RB. Endo, although I don't want to test him there. Gomez, who I don't want to test anywhere, and Tsimi who is more naturally a LB. I'd rather proper cover. That's two good utility players and I'm happy. I don't think the squad need be too big. If Salah goes it alter the equation. I then want someone good to replace him, also I want the Saudi team to have contract signed but date agreed to be announced only after we sign Salah's replacement so we don't get fleeced.
Sell Salah for £200m, buy Vinicius Junior for £100m and then buy a RB and CB with the change... Only issue I see with that is Vinicius Junior plays left
Supposedly latest offer for Salah is £130mill... Gets tempting at that price,.although I think we can still do better. Must have replacement lined up. Doak is promising, but should have someone else older and already made to compete with.
Fair enough, but if he played for someone else, would you be willing to pay £50mill for a one year loan (plus very high wages), if so, fair enough; I personally wouldn't. (and I don't think we'll get as much £80m for him next summer either).
On the balance sheets it is; cost us £50mill (plus wages) to have him for a season. (130 to 80 is a £50mill depreciation in value- he costs us £50mill, plus what, another £15mill in wages either way). Where it differs is, he has fan rapport, team familiarity, is a known entity, etc. which wouldn't be the same thing I know if we were loaning him from someone else. Purely from a financial standpoint though (with no sentimentality attached), both scenarios (loaning him for £50mill or his value depreciating £50mill) would suggest he alone brings £65mill in financial value to the team. Which could be valid if his presence meant winning the premier league as opposed to merely qualifying for top four. Or maybe qualifying for top 4 vs failing to reach top four.
Just playing devil's advocate... Keeping him could be the difference between CL and not. Would that then be worth the £50m...?
Yes, and I said as much... But, that was an edit that I might have added after you first started reading that post.
