It doesn’t look that way. They were bringing him back to play last week.

Yeah I guess they’d already sunk two years of wages so gave it a go.

All jokes aside, Chelsea need a striker.

From all the reports seen, he’s another wrong un in a long line of wrong un’s Charlton have had over the years. Supposedly backed by billionaires, but our recent spending would suggest they’re the poorest billionaires in existence.
Oh well, there’s always another take over to look forward too.

If this is the case, can you provide some evidence to that end?

    Twitter not acceptable.

Nothing on BBC, who would be all over this like a rash.

I did say that the statement last week alluded to them re integrating him, and that they were seemingly waiting for comment from the women.

Which, I would have also said, is ludicrous. They should have long since made the decision.

However, how are you the expert on footballer's contracts that you somehow claim to know (you don’t btw) that they could have just sacked him. You have no idea what his contract says.

They clearly couldn't, hence this long drawn out process.

The business of Manchester United hasn't come out of this looking good, but this has no affect of any sort on the team and its supporters.

That desision and process was nothing to do with it, or us.

Just thought I'd clear that up for you.

They were going to announce it on Friday and then there was uproar from your supporters, mainly women, when it was thought/leaked that he would be coming back. The club then delayed the decision. I’m not Einstein but I think I can work out what happened there.

    This was on Sky, today.

Kaveh Solhekol: There's a variety of ways of looking at what's happened today. What Man Utd would want us to believe and the message they want to get out there is that they had a long and thorough internal investigation, and at the end of that they have concluded Greenwood can't play for the club again, but they're going to look after him and his family and help him find a new club.

There's an alternative explanation. Adam Crafton's piece in The Athletic last Wednesday stated that at a meeting at the start of August, Arnold addressed his senior leadership team at Man Utd and had decided Greenwood would play for the club again, and would be re-integrated into the first-team squad.

He then followed it up with another story on Friday, which went into even more detail about how Man Utd had planned for how they would present Greenwood's re-integration into the first-team squad to the media and their fans. He even went so far as to say they had a list of journalists who they put into different categories - those who would be supportive, who would be hostile and who would sit on the fence.

The alternative explanation is that Man Utd, at the beginning of this month, decided Greenwood was going to play for them again. He was going to be brought back into the first-team squad. From a footballing perspective, they felt it was the right decision and were willing to absorb the criticism they were going to get. But because of what was reported on Wednesday, there's been a backlash, Man Utd fans have spoken out and written to Richard Arnold, we've had MPs speaking out - and it has appeared to make them think again.

They won't do that because he could challenge it and seek reparations, given that all charges have been dropped ... lawyers would be quids in ... plus United wouldn't want a reputationally damaging court case in the public eye..

Given the outcry about them making money from any deal, I suspect that they will shortly just cut their losses and pay up the remainder of his contract...

Do you really think he'll be advised to carry this on and go through legal proceedings when the likely outcome is that he'd lose?

I imagine he's being told to keep his head down and hope that someone abroad will take him on. His team around him won't want this in the press for another year or two.

Yeah, you could surmise that, but it's not actual fact. None of the above is, it's journalists guessing what United had or hadn't decided. The only actual fact is the actual statement from yesterday.

Anyway, regardless of which side you have sat on, absolutely none of this concludes that the supporters had backed this alleged decision for him to stay.

On the first point, yes he would ... to not contest it would be a tacit admission of guilt ... and he's already gone to great lengths to avoid being found guilty by law ... it would also narrow his options if he were to accept such a charge ... his lawyers will advise him that United would be on dodgy ground making a disrepute charge stick with no criminal case to answer and nobody prepared to give evidence ... plus, if the 're-integration' proposals were minuted it would totally undermine United's case ... it is only the public outcry that has forced their arm ... without that, he could have been back in the first team squad ... so they can't now change their minds coz that little scheme went tits up ...

Mendy is now planning to sue City for loss of earnings because he was found not guilty.

He's guilty by Twitter trial of course, but not guilty in court, he was acquitted. I have no idea his level of actual guilt, but I'm sure someone on this forum has all the details.

City didn't sack him either, his contract ran down while he was inside.

I've said the majority of Utd fans wanted him gone and that it was down to the United fans protesting that has made the club 'pause their announcement' about the decision on whether they would allow him back to the club or not.

However, sadly, on the few man Utd forums I've looked at, including this one, theres a sizeable minority that want to see Mason Greenwood in a Man Utd shirt again and some are questioning the clubs decision to **** him off.

Same with Sigurdsson. Club paid him, suspended him pending investigation. Rabid mob on forums/social media found him guilty.
Club did only thing it could at time, same with United really.

But employment law and criminal law are completely different.

Assuming Greenwood hasn't denied that's his voice on the audio forcing a woman to have sex with him against her wishes, then on that alone he has brought the club into disrepute by being splashed all over the media.

Greenwood is an arsehole and the club should have sacked him the day the tape was public.
