I'm upset when anyone gets raped. It's one of the most heinous crimes going in my book and having watched my sister go through a weeks trial and being tore to bits on the stand while matey walked then it tends to trigger my emotions and the worst parts of me (I'm fully aware the car crash thing is irrational but you know me I'm not one to hold back). I still feel sorry for her in the sense that nobody should have to go through what she did and that's awful. But ultimately she had a better chance than 99% if women out there to see her abuser get punished, and protect hundreds of other women in the process, but threw that away for the sake of a few quid. It's detestable and she's a disgrace to and has failed all other women out there. I appreciate you were in tough spot and this a bit of a unique situation. I'm normally a firm believer of innocent until proven guilty and I've said before on here many times that I don't think famous people should be named until they're charged with a crime. I don't agree that you couldn't just get rid though, you could have quite easily done but would have had to pay his contract off and the Glazers clearly didn't want to take that hit. Like I say though this case was unique as we've all heard the evidence and can all make our own mind up. All of this talk of new evidence etc is irrelevant in my book as I can't think of anything that would make how he behaved in that clip acceptable. I'm open to suggestions here. You're right that you've reached the correct decision now and that's great but it's the statement that you've concluded he had no case to answer which gets me. Like it or not what that says is that MUFC have publicly stated that how he behaved in that video is okay and he has nothing to answer for. Is that really a message you want your football club to be associated with? What happens when you tell a rapist they've done nothing wrong? They rape again. And again. And again.
Man Utd are continuing to support him and they shouldn’t be…. Bad move. "Although we have decided that Mason will seek to rebuild his career away from Manchester United, that does not signal the end of this matter. The club will continue to offer its support both to the alleged victim and Mason to help them rebuild and move forward positively with their lives."
In my view and taking the player out of this, I'm talking any domestic situation such as this, nothing will change, that person will still be that same person, but merely knowing as a celebrity everything will be more publically focused. The same as having a family / children, that will not change anything either in my view, in fact it makes the situation more dangerous. If it weren't for the fact our social system is broken, I'd want social services crawling all over them. Women often return to their domestic abuser, time and time again. I can't give the reasons for why they do that (taking money out of it) I can only think they must have loved that person at some point to be with them, so somewhere our human biology kicks in and they still kindle that past love. My point in total though is based around the kid, anyone that thinks this will be any better because a child is now born is very mistaken, but at least with celebrities if any of it breaks into the open again, people will go hunting for him, it's only in that knowledge I keep my peace.
I think I've mentioned this before but I was brought up in a home where my Mother was knocked about for years. She always took him back and I could never understand why. I then seen it with a female friend after I left school. Now, I understand. They feel like they might have overreacted. They feel like the abuser can change. They even feel partly responsible like its their fault and maybe they could have acted differently and they wouldn't have upset the abuser. They are also scared of them and have a fear of saying no and rejecting the abuser. I'm convinced that Greenwood will abuse again. It's in him and at some point he'll snap again. I hope SS are paying them regular visits as they would with a normal working class couple.
"Although we have decided that Mason will seek to rebuild his career away from Manchester United, that does not signal the end of this matter. The club will continue to offer its support both to the alleged victim and Mason to help them rebuild and move forward positively with their lives." You don't see that as offering support and rehabilitation to both? Not sure what they are supposed to say to be absolutely honest.
The United guru has had his say. https://x.com/manutdfan2022/status/1693626031184245246?s=46&t=-xelwRvhrS46vBDf7A5ISQ
I agree absolutely with everything you wrote here and like you I acknowledge this problem has only just begun, not finished. People have no way of knowing what goes on behind four walls, and today in Manchester court was an example of what can happen if the signs are ignored.
Best Man Utd fan out there ….He’s growing on me did he say dad’s getting excited……so somebody actually fkd him……it’s a fking mad world init
Yeah he'll never change and if anything he's been hugely enabled by this whole episode. I personally believe that the vast majority of people like that are beyond rehabilitation. And yeah I feel hugely sorry for the kid. It's a toxic environment for a child regardless but the fact its so public is going to be awful for them. Like I said earlier imagine what it will be like when they first hear that audio in a decade or so.
Well done Man Utd. I guess that had to be careful given he has not been convicted. Risk of unfair dismissal case.
