I am talking about someone who consistently upsets our apple cart with false promises followed by excuses that drive us all crazy. Sitting in some unknown back hall at Ashton Gate is an entity that seems hell bent on spoiling the party to which we all get an invitation during the summer break, which is intended to improve the squad over last year's line-up. All of the unfulfilled hype followed by a season of discontent is not what I signed up for and to continually do the same thing and get the same result is called stupidity, but as yet nobody in the hallowed halls has ever got that message. Obviously the memo didn't hit the desk of anyone valuable otherwise we would be table toppers by now but perhaps the memo really said that it's the same old apathy coupled with excuses will be the order for the next 10 years. Is it any wonder why we just are not capable of assembling a team that can at least compete in the Championship despite all of the buzz words used in news releases. Bristol City will generally come second or third when it comes to decision time for players on the move to improve their careers as we constantly look negative in our outlook, based on recent history. The usual suspects that take the bait have been hanging around the same pond for too long making them uninterested and uninteresting. Someone needs to wake up from a ten year hibernation because the rules of success have changed during your absence and unless you finally come out of your fog and smell the roses you could be in all kinds of trouble.

SL has and is still keeping our heads above water.
Some of his managerial appointments have beggared belief.
Nevertheless his heart is in the right place and pretty sure we'd be up **** creek without a paddle if he wasn't boss.

I’m beginning to wonder if it’s time he moved on. I am forever thankful for what he’s done over the years, but I also wonder if he’s not part of the problem. Maybe we need a younger, more dynamic owner.

I’m on the fence still if I’m honest. But shifting more towards time for him to move on.

Dare I mention your esteemed leader.

Seriously, we hear rumours of a new owner being 'courted'.
I wonder if, at his time of life, he needs BCFC.

With the foundations that have been built and the quite ridiculous fact that the seventh largest centre of population in the UK hasn’t seen top flight football for nigh on 40 years, we are now just a selling club with little or no real ambition, and a club that honestly has no REAL ambition to reach the pinnacle, and that buys L1 players and the occasional Championship cast off.

At least that’s how it’s seemed to me under Lansdowns ownership and for a lot of the time.

At heart he’s a businessman who didn’t become a billionaire by taking risks. But the opportunities have been there and were ignored in the past under his ownership

Grateful ? Yes but we’re also now quite stagnant IMHO.

It’s risky of course. Plenty of clubs like Cardiff and Blackburn and even Man U have found that foreign ownership isn’t always for the good of the club.

And I reckon Nige maybe sees it the same way ?

    Who knows

Just having a beer and speculating

I agree, maybe not so much about the past, but recently yes. We have to be a bit careful though I don’t want us to end up like Derby for instance, so there has to be a balance, I just think at times SL is a bit too cautious

I have often thought our problem lies right at the top of the pile but wanted it to be somewhere else. When my mind goes back to the new stadium saga I can remember posting that you need to build the team before you erect a monument to your ego, and the money wasted on dreams should have gone elsewhere in my books. Steve Lansdown has every right to do what he see as the best way but I think that mantra has been shattered by some of the decisions made by someone at the top of Bristol City's hierarchy and that has to be himself. We are starting to look like some other teams whereby the owner has made key decisions without a thought to the long suffering supporters and therefore brought doubts into play about their stewardships. However ownership carries a heavy burden and sometimes the devil you know is better than a foreign entity with a suspect bank account. How can such a successful businessman such as SL be so abjectly bad at running a football club with such a great following? The choice is his alone and maybe it is time for change but the nightmare of finding a new more committed financier would be a long and possibly treacherous road. Ouch.

I was relatively happy to be Championship mid table ish whilst building the infrastructure, stadium training ground etc, I genuinely thought once that was in place the focus would shift to the team and pushing for promotion. I’ve been on the whole disappointed with our progress recently, I know there are mitigating circumstances, but we are through the worst of that now, time to press on, not a time to go all cautious. Give NP the funds from the AS sale and let’s go for it!!

You think that is the answer??? take Nakhi! 1n 150 games for Huddersfield HE SCORED 50 GOALS .... 1 IN 3 GAMES For BCFC he has appeared 150 times and scored 30 goals ...1 IN 5 games ... when sold to us he had scored 15 in 29 appearances for QPR 1 I N 1. 9 games!

Other players who turned us down didnt actually do that well after moving on ... although a season or so later they improved! thats a forward...a few midfielders and defenders have been the same pattern so cash to make a splash ... could turn into a belly flop!!!

True, but doing nothing could result in far worse. It’s also a case of backing the current manager, a sign of intent. You could always make an argument for not buying players, but most clubs that are successful buy players that are better than the ones they already have. Even top teams like Man City didn’t get to be multiple champions by not buying quality players. Of course buying relative quality players for the league you’re in doesn’t guarantee success, but it certainly helps.

some of the successful clubs [ a lot ] have a different system ! most contracts are +1 with 1 year to go plus 1 they either "circulate player for sale or sign another contract [ and can still sell ! not give away]
probably 10 of the top teams in the Prem have BOUGHT A PLAYER for more than the turn over of most championship clubs ... just 1 player!!!!
