TONY PULIS is ready to fight Newcastle and West Brom in a £2 million battle for Birmingham defender Liam Ridgewell.
Stoke manager Pulis will move to offer Ridgewell a Premier League lifeline with a bid when the transfer window opens in January.

What do we think? We were interested in the summer before his engagement fell apart and football took a back seat so hopefully this is a true story. He's a good left back, an improvement on Higgy in my opinion. £2m would be a good deal.

Could be a useful aquisition and £2m is not a lot to pay. Are you sure he's not another CB? How would we fare vs Newcastle and WBA though in attracting him?

He is basically a slightly better Higgy. He was a centre half initially but developed into a very capable left back. He wouldn't be a square peg in a round hole.

My understanding is that he is a CB playing as a LB. Brum also had a terrible defence in their relegation year and he was one of their main players!

I dont dispute that he is capable and probably a step forward from what we have (if Wilson and Palcious became our midfield pairing) but I feel that not having true full backs who can get forward is one of the main issues with our inabilty to pass out of trouble and attack with numbers!

He is a decent player but, is of course a Centre half converted to left back. IF Newcastle are interested we've got no chance then .. I think? T.P. could have signed him last summer <doh>

As I said Potts, Ridgewell would've been sold in the summer but his private life made him delay it for that transfer window.

I've a;ways said that our weak midfield invites continued pressure on our defence. The old saying " the bast form of defence, is attack" says alot about why we captitulate under pressure!
