Be interested to hear what other people think, but I've never heard this from an East Riding native; nor can I imagine it in the North Riding. So, is this purely West Riding? Where do the boundaries lay? Anyone with any ideas? Also, interesting how this gets projected as a whole Yorkshire thing.
