The team was quite strong for an EFL Cup game
Most of the missing first teamers were on the bench

I just find it amazing that a poor game at the start of the season somehow means more and has bigger significance than a terrible game in December.

That’s what I think , the cup game was awful apparently , but look how many other teams got hammered by lower league teams, doesn’t make it right but in grand scheme of things most people don’t give a **** about that cup . If we had hung on for a few more seconds for a draw at Norwich , people would have said , not great but take a draw away when not playing well ….fine margins , And isn’t there rumours of another 4 or 5 incomings? People keep saying it’s his team, but not quite yet . Come September it could look a completely different line up to what played against Norwich . Nobody is saying he will be a great manager for definite , I didn’t want him to get the job when he did , but let’s just hang on a couple more games and see how it plays out . This reaction is way over the top IMO ,

If you attribute this reaction to just Norwich and Doncaster then you will be amazed. The gripe is coming from Norwich, Doncaster, the full set of pre season friendlies and a few games from last season too. Unless something changes are we going to steadily get worse? We've had excuses about injuries and friendlies etc but there aren't any now and it's still poor.

Hands in the air from myself, I've been positive. I've previously supported the logic that pre season means nothing, we have injuries etc, but as of right now we've gone backwards. I've never seen anything quite like the other night, when we've fielded a strong side against a League 2 side. It's not even that we're losing games, it's the way we're playing. It's worrying. We need a result AND a good performance on Saturday to try and quell the negativity.

Regarding the cup game, I guess you had to see it to believe it then. Everyone stood doing literally nothing for minutes at a time, even when we're behind.

I gather it was appalling ,but people are even using friendlies as a gauge now , I feel like I’ve woken up in a parallel universe . Weird thing is in the past I’ve always been like it in , I’m first to slag a player off or a manager , I just can’t my head around it .. I’m quite indifferent to Rosie. , I find he talks well but also sometimes find him bit cringe, but I always thought he was fairly popular among the fan base, I’m shocked how quickly it’s turned

It's the continuation of performances from the end of last season through to Tuesday. I couldn't give a toss about winning friendlies, or the cup matches for that matter. But we, quite consistently and over a period of time, look terrible, and that's my gripe.

Don't get me wrong, I want him to succeed but the other night was inexcusable. He wasn't happy about it either so we'll see what he changes for Saturday. I'm not really a fan of his philosophy personally but if we're getting results then it won't matter. I firmly believe there's quality in the squad already, we see it in moments. But we're our own worst enemy still for giving goals away and stifling our own creativity.

I thought the point of pre-season friendlies were to get match fit AND practice putting into effect tactics ready for the start of competitive matches

My memory is getting worse as i get older but we weren’t that bad we’re we? Didn’t we only lose a couple out of 10 games or something and weren’t we mid table in the form guide , granted we needed more goals but this is my confusion , most people seemed quite happy and content last year and full of excitement for this year from people I spoke too and what I read , etc , that’s why the change of mood seems so sudden and OTT … maybe cos i haven’t been on the forum for a year , that’s the secret , stay off the internet it makes you happier <laugh>

Yeah but the first couple of competitive games don't count. Aren't you keeping up?

This is exactly what I'm 'amazed' by, this notion that we can draw any meaningful conclusions from a singular league fixture.

Again, where did anyone say they don't count? Or are you doing the time honoured thing on this board of saying something enough times that you believe the other person is actually saying that?

The writing was on the wall towards the end of last season. While mathematically safe on points from relegation we persisted with this possession based football which was frankly awful to watch. If anything, on recent displays, the style of play is even more boring and lacking intensity.

We won 4 of our last 17 last season, drawing 9. Excuses were made for those draws; we lacked fire power, injuries etc. so there was a lot of hope/optimism that once we got Oscar/Tetteh etc back, we'd look much better, if anything, from what we've seen so far, we look worse.

People shouldn't conclude anything from performances in pre-season friendlies, since when was that a thing?

So we lost 4 of our last 17 games? What an awful run we had.
