The world population when my dad was born was 2 billion. The world population in his lifespan has risen to 8 billion We've ****ed ourselves up
Climate change is unquestionably real. Some of it and possibly the majority of it has been hastened by the industrial revolution. However, the earth's temperature has always fluctuated, so it may be difficult to recognise how much of the increase is simply cyclical. The problem is, anyone saying this is immediately accused of being 'a denier'. The latest period of heating is, but a blink of an eye in the 4.5 billion years the planet has been formed. My main concerns are that all the protests are aimed at Britain, when we are one of the best countries in the world for reducing emissions etc. China are continuously building more and more coal fired power stations and until they and others do more, I object to the people of this country being forced to pay more and more green levies, especially at a time when the poorest are really struggling. It's no coincidence that the people who are most vocal on this issue are usually the comfortably well off. My other gripe is the way climate change is reported. Laura ****ing Tobin on GMB continuously screeches that we've just recorded the hottest temperature the earth has ever recorded. No, it's the hottest temperature since records began, less than 200 years ago. Still concerning, but totally misleading and she does it time and time again, along with all the MSM. Weather forecasts also have slightly above average temperatures in scolding red whereas a few years ago those same numbers were in pale yellow. Whilst it's real, climate change has become a runaway cash cow for government, commerce and scientists at the expense of all of us. Some balance is all I ask.
I would have thought everyone knows that climate change is real (as you say, the earth's temperature has always fluctuated) but I can't tell from all of that whether you believe that man-made climate change is a real problem, or whether you think that we should be doing anything about it? I suspect not. Whilst it's real, climate change has become a runaway cash cow for government, commerce and scientists at the expense of all of us. What do you mean by that?
Believe the science, not some no mark on GMB weather.... The rate of change since the mid-20th century is unprecedented over millennia. Earth's climate has changed throughout history. Just in the last 800,000 years, there have been eight cycles of ice ages and warmer periods, with the end of the last ice age about 11,700 years ago marking the beginning of the modern climate era — and of human civilization. Most of these climate changes are attributed to very small variations in Earth’s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives. please log in to view this image This graph, based on the comparison of atmospheric samples contained in ice cores and more recent direct measurements, provides evidence that atmospheric CO2 has increased since the Industrial Revolution. (Credit: Luthi, D., et al.. 2008; Etheridge, D.M., et al. 2010; Vostok ice core data/J.R. Petit et al.; NOAA Mauna Loa CO2 record.) Find out more about ice cores (external site). The current warming trend is different because it is clearly the result of human activities since the mid-1800s, and is proceeding at a rate not seen over many recent millennia.1 It is undeniable that human activities have produced the atmospheric gases that have trapped more of the Sun’s energy in the Earth system. This extra energy has warmed the atmosphere, ocean, and land, and widespread and rapid changes in the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere, and biosphere have occurred. Personally think we've ****ed the planet already, we've continually pillaged it of resources, which have to be finite and eventually run out...but what will be left behind by the time coal and oil are a distant memory. My carbon footprint must be pretty shocking, 4-5000 miles a month travelling to work sites...I do car share, but that's more a financial benefit than an ecological decision, so I can't preach to anyone.
Do you reckon we’ll be ok for while yet ? Reckon I’ll be kicking up the daisys before the next 30 years have elapsed so not that arsed after that
I said this. Problem is, I don't like certain aspects surrounding the whole issue, so therefore I "don't believe the science". I said exactly what you've posted, with the caveat that some scientists who know more than anyone on here question the degree of human contribution. I believe, as I said, that the majority is down to the industrial revolution.
What case? If my suspicion is wrong, put me straight - do you believe that man-made climate change is something that we should be doing something about or not? It really wasn't clear from your post. You didn't answer this, either..... Whilst it's real, climate change has become a runaway cash cow for government, commerce and scientists at the expense of all of us. What did you mean by that?
Of course we should. Problem is, too many countries are actively adding to it. Why does everything have to be spelled out to you?
Well it was rather a rambling post, so it wasn't clear at all. What about the bizarre 'cash cow' statement?
Our generation will be ok....our kids probably will be too....plenty of nice hot summers to come and pissy winters with no snow....our descendants may not be so lucky, but as you say, we'll be long gone
