Just because it has it's own wiki page, doesn't make it a type of metal. It's like deathgrind or bludgeoned black metal. I can make up my own ****ty type of metal, make a wiki page for it, doesn't actually make it a type of music, or atleast one that is recognised.

So most of the Metal Genres aren't a type of music.

Seriously no matter what you say, the fact is all those links above are still Metal. They don't differ enough to warrant their own genre of it. Yet look at The Smiths, then look at The Strokes, quite different bands, yet in reality the same genre. It's just pointless categorisation that makes everything more complicated than what it's worth.

It's not the same genre mate. You're saying that Black Sabbath play the same genre as Cannibal Corpse? It may have metal on the end of it, but Heavy Metal and Brutal Death Metal are different genres. It's like the difference betwen Rock and Metal.

In that case you'll know that Black Sabbath are Hard Rock. (EDIT:Ok they are Heavy Metal but I always saw them as more of a Hard Rock band)

Just because someone screams instead of sings isn't a reason to make it another genre.

Also you have to consider that Black Sabbath were formed in 68, a time when you probably wouldn't expect anyone to be that drastic vocally.

Thats because metal is a dead end genre with no means of evolving other than by mixing in other musical forms. To create the illusion of diversity there are billions of subgenres for a style of music that now has but a handful of innovative bands. Not to tar it all with the same brush though, theres a world of difference between a band like Meshuggah and a band like, say, Opeth. Both of which are metal bands that use screaming vocals.

Good point well made! All forms of music has a handful of truly original or self styled artists but everything in between is a wash of likenesses and uninspiring average-at-best bands.

The difference is though, and this is only my opinion, that it seems to be predominantly American bands/styles that breed this sort of pigeon holing.

There are so many others though, Maiden, Slipknot, Asking Alexandria, CombiChrist, Beastie Boys, Nas, Ludacris, DMX, BMTH, Papa Roach, Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, In Flames, The 69 Eyes, Apocalyiptica, HIM, Turbonegro, Sum 41, Linkin Park (older), Lost Prophets (older), Parkway Drive, Moterhead, Weezer, Guns'n'Roses, Motley Crue. Prob's many more, but my brain fails me!

Oh, and as far as genre classification. If you dont listen to metal, you will not be able to hear the difference. Like alot with rap, can a casual listener tell the difference between East Cost, West Cost and A-Town? I can tell the difference between Grindcore, Metalcore and Mathcore! And they are particularly similar.

There's no such thing as speedcore.

Diffrent generations have diffrent genres for the same music.

I'm 36 and have heard of bands such as slayer, metallica etc. in there early years coined as Thrash bands but also Speed core.

In the main it's all classed at metal but the more you get in to it that is when people start trying to classify it and make it into these stupid genres. Which usually piss me off cause they come up with **** names for them.

Me I'm open to any kind of music/genre on my day, anything except Dance and ****in R&B they can just **** off :D
