I have a feeling for no particular reason that a striker is coming between now and the end of the window on loan that will be "the man" no idea who or where from, but he will be one that gets us all excited.

Seems like the premier league window is picking up pace now and that will free players up to go out on loan and that will start the domino effect.

Speakman in an incredibly difficult position with strikers tbh. Both Hemir and Mayenda will have come wanting to play, and we still technically have the best striker in the league on our books and under contract all season.

I know what Mowbray says but I just can’t see another striker coming in before Stewart leaves. And if they do, I reckon it will be one who can cover on the wings as well.

Are you alright? I always thought you were pretty level headed but you seem to be losing the plot lately implying we’re penny pinching and stuff like the above.

I think it will be 1 striker giving us him, Hemir and the new lad as the 3 options.

Expecting RS to either leave or not be right till Christmas then leave in Jan

A team of kids loses a friendly and it's brown alert for some. Pathetic.

As much as I like the new regime and transfer setup this could be disastrous. We should have a minimum of 4 strikers at the club, it’s incredible that we’re probably going to head into the season with a single fit striker yet again. It just makes our only fit striker a target for other teams to kick **** out of.

I know strikers are possibly the toughest signing to make but it’s the one position where we should be willing to make a big investment.

Im pretty confident overall despite my worry about the strikers, I can just feel it in my bones that they will be kicking lumps out of Hemir with no backup on the bench.

It’s not even the panic of what’s to come that bothers me, it’s the revisionism of what’s gone before.

This was just a joke to be honest. I does feel - presuming that the rumours of us being out bid by Westerlo and now possibly Preston are true of course - that we we are missing key striker targets because of low balling and if we won’t pay the going rate (ie what our average competitors are paying) that situation won’t get better closer to the end of the window. We have replaced Gelhardt - with what looks like a promising player, so happy with that but Mayenda hasn’t enough senior football in the bank and I can’t help feeling we aren’t going to give Stewart a serious competitor which we need to have, then what happens when we need to replace Stewart. Hope I’m proven wrong but I think that for all the good the recruitment team aren’t going to be giving Mowbray the striking depth he needs to win the division.

I think three strikers is the optimum number. Any more and one of them at least will just never play. The third striker is already looking at sub appearances and very rare starts.

If Stewart and Mayenda were fit and definitely both staying then our fans would be saying striker isn’t a priority. We can’t sign a 4th just because of injuries. They won’t be injured forever.

It’s why I think we need a wide player who can credibly play up front, rather than a 4th specialist striker. Because that way it’s somebody who can cover a “crisis” like this whilst also stake a claim elsewhere on the pitch

This of course changes once Stewart is gone. At that point his replacement can be anything. It’s why his injury is bad news for everybody.

missing out on Cannon was because Everton wanted to loan him out and we correctly thought £1m was ridiculous for a single season and wanted to buy him permanently. I’m entirely content with that.

Westerlo sold a player to Burnley for 10million in January and Everton only wanted to loan Cannon. See no reason for concern there

We were out bid on Frigan to the tune on £6m (maybe Euros) we’re in no place to throw fees like that around until we make a sale. It just wouldn’t be sustainable. The £1m loan fee Preston are paying for Cannon is being universally derided as a terrible deal and poor value.

We’re being run sensibly not cheaply. We are already pretty much the highest spenders in the championship outside the parachute clubs over the last two seasons so even within those parameters we’ve set ourselves we’re still not being tight, ‘low balling’ or ‘not paying the going rate’.
