He was a good bassist too before he had 'issues' and they brought in Timothy B Schmit.

RIP Randy and thanks for the wonderful early music of the Eagles

I love the Eagles but I must admit I hadn’t heard of this guy.
I always thought of the lineup as being Don Henley, Glen Frey, Don Felder and Joe Walsh

Anyone who had a part in creating that band earns my respect.
    RIP Randy <rose>

When Ann and I arrived in Canada back in 1975 all we heard on the radio were the Eagles and I quickly fell in love with their music. Sadly just after we arrived they decided to break up and leave the scene with only their music being left behind, and I was sad at the thought that I would never be able to see them perform at a live concert. To my great satisfaction they did re-form for the "Hell Freezes Over" album and I was thrilled to go and see them live in Edmonton, Alberta when I lived there back in the day. I had read a newspaper column about their return which started with a comment about the Eagles never being able to recapture the magical harmonies that they produced in their earlier years. The same pundit said at the concert that he knew they were back in the big time after hearing just a few seconds of the opening number and I was lucky enough to see them later in the tour. All in all it was one of my most marvelous memories during several decades of seeing major tours from some of the most influential bands in music history and the Eagles were always at the top of my must see bands, and I did it. Randy Meisner was not part of the Eagles at that time but his history of being there at the start of the band was always a major part of the history of the Eagles.

R.I.P. Randy and thank you for your music. <rose>

Glen Frey and Don Henley were the driving force and alpha males behind the Eagles.

There were many fights and what amounted to outright bullying within the band which resulted in Meisner and Don Felder leaving.

Felder, having written the riff to Hotel California is still laughing all the way to the bank

Joe Walsh, brilliant though he is, wasn’t an original member. He replaced Bernie Leadon in about 1975

The Eagles are somewhat like Fleetwood Mac in that the original players came and left at will until the most well known membership came to the fore in later versions. It's kind of strange that 2 of the best bands ever known went through various stages of discontent and departures followed by stability that was the precursor of worldwide success and recognition.

In terms of personnel changes, Black Sabbath must be one of the bands with the most changes ever with 38 musicians over the years

For me, they may have been far more popular and sold more records later on,, but Fleetwood Mac back in the days of Peter Green, before Steve Nicks and co changed their whole sound. were a far better band in my eyes

When you think about it, U2 are pretty unique in that it’s been the four of them since they began back in the 70’s.

When I think of band evolution I always think of Jefferson Airplane - ‘evolving’ into Starship with only Grace Slick as the original band member.
