if the yellow and blue were to be swapped round on their kit it would make a lovely away kit for us. Or probably us, last season.

Just a quick well done to Ireland for qualifying for Euro 2012. I'm sure Connolly will be cheering them on.

And the biggest thrill of the night for Saints fans is that a 35 year old ex-Saint comes on as substitute for Sweden against England. I must admit, I bothered to turn the radio on at that point. ;)

I must say he still looked a class above some of the Swedish players at the tender age of 35. He was a class player, we misused him and he didn't fulfill his potential with us. Now if he was managed by Sir Nige...

My favourite memory of him came in a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford when Forlan swung his foot at a ball in the last few minutes and scored. We outplayed United that day because of Svennson. I was chatting to a couple of Mancs in the car park (yes genuinely they were Mancs not from Essex) and they suggested that Svennson and their very expensive useless Argentinian could be swapped with a few million coming our way as part of the deal. He completely bossed the game. Oh but to have him under Nigel's tutelage!

My favourite Svennson moment was when he scored against Spurs in the cup. We won 4-0, and hoddle was their manager after leaving us for the so called hallowed ground.

I remember this goal aswell. He ran from the midfield and took his shot on the edge of the area, nobody closed him down in the whole move! Hammond scored a similar goal against Leeds on the first day of the season.

I seem to recall Svensson scoring a brace against Leicester and also scoring against Brighton in the Carling Cup on Sept 11th 2001 of all days. Did he get many other goals for us?

Also, anyone else remember his free-kick for Sweden against Argentina in the 2002 World Cup? It knocked the South American giants out of the tournement in the group stage and of course helped England through!

Yes, I remember that free kick, it was an excellent goal. Great celebration if I remember rightly.

Women in my family all had this reaction to him, and I often wondered whether his film star looks led to a lot of blokes giving him grief and seeing him as lazy. He certainly gave us some great moments, and I remember celebrating like a loonie when he scored against Argentina. Officially Delgado is the first Saint to have scored in a World Cup Finals, but I'll take Anders goal that day as breaking the duck. Pity Michael never played in a World Cup ....
