We will have to hope we have enough industriousness to get the absolute best out of Trent. He is truly a joy to watch

He showed for England that he has that pressing ability too, albeit against poor opposition

We’ve all talked about a fab replacement but it’s quite conceivable that we don’t go for a specialist DM. Mac’s ball winning stats are actually very very good albeit mainly from a pressing point of view rather than covering. But if the idea is to have the midfield being energetic and winning the ball via pressing rather than tackling. Get 3 midfielders in who can press opposition well and win the ball that way rather than making tackles is a much more efficient way of doing it and setting us up for a counter.

The year we bought Fabinho we won the CL, year 2 we won the PL. Tell me again about not playing with a specialist DM

You want to play a 4-3-3, then one of those mid 3 has to be a DM as your midfield width is coming from the FB's. The DM helps the CB's when the team is attacking (and your FB's are providing the attacking width).

Its not just about charging around trying to win the ball back, we could have kept Milner for that. Cover and stability are needed to stop counter attacks

btw AMC had Caicedo that allowed him to have those high ball winning stats

This of course could all have been avoided had we bought players in past windows instead of sitting on our arses and sulking if players picked another club. Also if we hadn't bought short term in Thiago.

Lots of diff ways to play. Traditionally since having fab, yes we’ve had a more defensive one. Doesn’t mean it’s always going to be like that.

we’ve also had full backs supplying all the width until back end of last season with TAA tucking inside. Formations and roles change as managers tweak things to keep fresh.

3 years is short term, his contract was only 4 years. He was 29 when he joined, best you'd get out of a player like him is 4 maybe 5.

Mac and Dom are 24 & 22, that's 10+, thats long term thinking

How many players stay 10 years? Think Hendo is the only player at the club that’s been here that long.

key point is do we want to play 433.

if he does this inverted full crap system then it is in effect a 505 in possession.

trent stood there with 3 lads behind him and who beside him? a specialist 6? or can they be something else.

    should it be something else?

that's the point it's not 2 back with a 6 on his own and everyone pressed up any more.

what do people mean when they say a "6" as to me that is a deep lying playmaker but others seem to be using it to mean a DM .

PS actually my first thought when someone references the number 6 shirt is Crazy Horse himself .

exactly. the club is already floating this out by seeing macallister asked about no6 slot

I think another macallister who could play left, right or 6 or 10 us far more likely at this point than the extremely expensive 6s

why cos the club has also made it known they like bajcetic at 6.

i do not believe in negative play breaking midfielders.

the likes of a makelele or a batty are just limited players.

I also don't believe in purely attacking midfielders. this is why imo players like alli or such thst just get pushed forwards and don't defend are limited.

the 6 is merely the guy that has to sit deeper. in the olden days of 442 you'd have a pair of cms and one would go and the other wouldn't and they would swap depending on thr situation at hand.

Once a player has the discipline to not vanish then they have a shot at 6. however they also have to be able to cover ground and work that transition.

for me thaigo could be a 6 but not in England. could he stand in a paid with trent while 5 others go 30 yard up the park? yes.

    macallister could do it.

bajcetic is the kid with the passing and the defensive ability. he is the one the club will want playing at age 20/21.

so yes. I'd think souness, mcmahon as the types who'd be put at no 6 these days but you'd never accuse either of not being able to attack.

there's a long list of consistent "links"

    • arambrat or whatever. no chance imo
    • touchameni. player has laughed in our face.
    • gravenberch. wants something from bayern
    • kone. injured
    • thuram. we have been told we got Szoboszlai instead
    • lavia. 19 year old 50mil.
    • doucoure. Young 70mil player from palace apparently
    • Phillips. quite odd one
    • caicedo. the next fans favourite that would need 100mil to get.
of that list are any really true and are any logical as a flexible player who could play both 6 and 8.

are any of them within our price range really.?

what is our price range? Nobody knows…..how much have FSG set aside for investment - we don’t know. How much have we saved in salaries per annum? It’s impossible to second guess

Well its not Bellingham money, that much we do know.

    Alisson
    Konate vvd Robertson
    Trent macallister
    Szbolozlai Jones
    Salah gakpo nunez

Imo that's the day 1 team as of now. (Diaz speculation leads me there)

Bajcetic and Elliott are the current cm options if thiago, fabinho and Henderson all go.

That does suggest that morton could be retained for europa and theres room to buy 1. My logic is if its one then that player needs to move between positions as these kids can't be physically relied on.

Perversely Phillips actually makes more sense than some but it's the wrong club to try to buy from.

The issue now is that once you step outside that first 11 you find a lot of kids

    Kelleher
    Bradley matip gomez
    Bajcetic tsimikas
    Elliott morton
    Doak jota Diaz

    Not great is ut?

A few back line changes are required on top of that midfield so I think we will be looking to just two competitions this time.
