I guess you also need to factor in the £6m(?) for Minteh, plus I'm sure there have been other youngsters recently who we've paid transfer fees for as well?

Although is it just now that we've received money for Wood & Shelvey, or did we already get that back in January?
I'm not going any further than I already have mate, and again I'd be guessing Minteh's wages. Sheet was only really designed to show how selling even **** players allows us to spend an awful lot more.

Well, I adjusted for Tonali in this window too, so it's been peeled back a bit, but if we can get rid of Darlow (for the reported £6m) it looks like this - outgoing wages are accurate (Barnes / Tonali wages are assumed):

If we can sell Lascelles too, like this:

Lascelles @£7m is worth a £30m player on 60k a week.
Nice to see someone using excel and not using the overley bright red and greens

If I was sighting something Newcastle lack it's a bit of a spark..... they're all very safe solid players but the midfield lacks that bit of magic imo.

I think that'll will be in another year or two.
I don't think the owners really expected to be where we already are in terms of progress. That sort of real gamechanger will cost serious money. It's amazing that we already have the likes of Bruno, Botman, Isak & Tonali.

Fee / wages isn't a tangential curve... but I know what you're saying.

Krafth is on £55k. Pope is only on £60k. Longstaff £50k...

Maybe we can steal a good youn un from somewheere and not have to pay him Botman money now, as we're a more attractive prospect... It's a minefield.

I know it's not the days when Kieron Dyer was on £80k a week for permanently being injured in 2005, but higher wages do set a precedence, ie a big signing is not going to accept way less than the other previous big signings, especially if they're a sought after player. I'm surprised Pope's wages are not higher tbh.

So we could sign Barnes, sell Maxi AND have a tiny net profit?
Now that would be incredible business.

It would be almost like the time we took Gavin Peacock off Bournemouth, and gave them in exchange our worst player of all time, ie Wayne Fereday.
