wouldn’t say it was criminal. It’s more that Man City are a machine, where anything less than perfection is not good enough
They only played Man City once in their run in... DDDLWWLLW ... that's simply not good enough for a title challenge.

nobody.
I'd contend there's a half chance city completely flop next season. A small half chance based on squad fatigue, player loss to transfer and rampant boozing.
there more of a chance of arsenal running away with it like we did in 19/20 with no real challenge than arsenal getting into a proper title race with a proper city side.
We need to just face some hard truths
1. VVD is not what he was. If we don't adjust how we play we will continue to leak goals
2. We still cannot break down set defences. Something has to change to win games.
3. Our real issue separating us from the dregs like utd and newcastle was lack of goals. IMO our real issue is getting goals out of nunez and keeping gakpo, jota and diaz fit. This is IMO just as important as the midfield
4. Even if two new boys hit the ground running there is an imbalance in the squad thats travelled to germany. A player must arrive to replace fabinho.
5. Our system of borrowing a full back and playing a Cb at RB/CB is not quite what others are doing in the league. its all fine with the ball but without it we've seen issues. City saw issues. they tried this against us and lost in the first game last year with B.Silva at lw/lm/lb. they tonked us at home.
Theres a massive difference between city approach of stones stood there as a CB playing CM beside rodri and fast guys behind in behind that and us parking trent who's not a cb and can't defend there and expecting a real big cb like konate to cover 40 yards of ground.
City have the nice situation of having 75% possession and stones basically reverting to CB in thier formation until they get set to defend (if they don't win it back fast)
Our system needs tweaking this summer. thats what I am saying. We cannot turn up expecting it to work without spending a lot of time and effort getting it right.
The thing about city is the can play various players and get it done. If trent is out we cannot play our 3223 formation, not really.
whatever we do we need 2 players in every slot. Not one system with trent and one system without. that can't work.

I know you put a lot of work into your posts but there's such a thing as analysis to paralysis.nobody.

not saying that they didn’t ‘stumble’ at any point. But it was still a decent challenge however city are just too strong
there are simply not enough teams challenging City. It was only us for half a decade or so. This league needs a much stronger top 6, even if it means our main rivals getting stronger too.
Just a turn of phrase, but it was bad. They were in the driving seat then took 15 points from their last 10 games (I think).wouldn’t say it was criminal. It’s more that Man City are a machine, where anything less than perfection is not good enough

It's the comment like "nobody" that makes me wonder why you let yourself be this downbeat before the season even starts. I'm concerned for all different reasons by the scale of the upheaval but generally I'm excited to see how this new team gets it together and dominates other teams like we know a Klopp team can.
quite rightcity are treble champions and at this point have only lost one player and replaced them with kovacic. in theory they are not much weaker despite losing a player who was in top top form last year.
All the rest going is speculation.
If city are on form then 95 is the absolutely minimum target and there's not one side in the prem capable of racing them week in and week out to that currently.
We should be aiming for 4th and Europa league and anything else is a massive massive bonus.
As I have outlined there's so much to do to get those forwards working for us and that's IMO the key to 4th. anything better requires the whole team balance to improve

quite right
in fact i don't think i'll bother watching this season![]()

not sure sunshine exists in your worldwhats up to you.
some folk are not sunshine fans who only turn up for the big wins.
in fact i hear city need a few more plastics to fill out their stadium so there's always a place for people who only support winning teams

RE breaking down defences. I’m hoping the Szobo may help in that regard. Can’t say I know a whole lot about him, only what I’ve read not seen much play other than clips, but seems to have that bit of skill on the ball as well as a good shot from outside the box, somethibg that’s missing in this team. That is always a way of breaking down a defence. Either by scoring, or forcing opposition to come out and close you down which opens up a space behind them somewhere.
