We may be losing one........................ https://insidefutbol.com/2023/07/16...d-eyeing-championship-striker-on-loan/611024/
Does anyone on here really think we will win promotion this year? Personally I think there’s no chance. After Leicester, Leeds and Middlesbrough there are some good teams who will be knocking st the door. Yes I’m delighted we have signed Ramsey and the others but it will take time for this team to gel, especially with a new coaching team. This is not my half glass empty view, more of a realistic opinion. After about half a dozen games we should have some idea how good we are but I’d gladly settle for a mid table finish this year. Oh and if I was a betting man I would stick a couple of bob on Hull City for the play offs.
It would be disappointing to lose one of our own but IMO he just doesn’t cut it Now why can’t other clubs be interested in the likes of Ojo Sawyers Rhinomota etc
He needs game time. Unlikely to get much with us with the main 4 or 5 ahead of him. League 1 experience will toughen him up and do him good. However his pace gives us a good bench option if needed.
I wouldn't say "no chance" Irish, just it would be unlikely as we're virtually starting from Ground Zero considering the 3 teams below last season went down. The point is you need a combination of two things - ultimate ambition combined with a realistic target as an absolute minimum. Everyone seems to believe that Rambo will be a game changer on the pitch and there's a lot of credibility in that. The problem for Bulut this season is going to be understanding the Championship as a division as well as his new and inherited recruits. The target must be top 6 for a playoff place whilst not discounting auto promotion as an impossible dream. After the club's very serious attempts to seismically change footballing direction, going into the new season aiming for safety would be a huge mistake.
I don`t think we will win promotion I am expecting it. We have a new manager and a new team so how can anyone say they wont be promoted? We have not lost a game and we are not in a relegation battle. We have brought in good players and have the good players from last year plus the ones out through injuries last season. To hope for a mid table is accepting defeat at this point. Teams coming down do not do as well as you think and there is a reason why they were relegated. Did you think when we got relegated twice from the premier league we would automatically go back up? Everything points to Tan, Dalman and Bulut are looking for promotion and so am I.
I stand by the players brought in are a lot better than many others think and I am expecting to go to Leeds and win. We will have 11 foorballers on the pitch the same as every other team (providing our goalies don`t get red cards) all they have to do is go out and play to their potential. At least give the team the benefit of the doubt right now. At the start of a new season everyone should be up-beat not broken in pieces.
I was as I’m sure you realised jesting but I’ve heard a rumour Ojo may be off on loan to Neil Harris’ Gillingham
I admire your optimism Jck. I had my say up- thread. I don't think we'll be in a relegation fight, fortunately. I'm expecting top half with the business we've done. Top 6 would be a stretch and a welcome bonus. Besides the teams coming down, other teams are not standing still, they're strengthening as well. There are also the likes of Norwich who seemed to underperform last year. Like we've got Leeds first up this year, we has newly relegated Norwich early last year. We beat them. Not sure what happened after that but it wasn't pretty. You're right about teams coming down not going straight back. The difference between those coming down now and when we came down was that we came straight down. These teams have been in the premier league for a while. They will have full parachute payments and players they could command a big fee from if they didnt keep them. We had reduced parachute payments as we were only up for a year and basically tried to do it with championship players. It has been done, but we didnt. I genuinely hope you're right, but feel this is a year for consolidation and building. I said the same last year. Didn't pan out though. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for progressive football that moves us forward as a club. More than that would be a bonus.
Wintle did great when he came back off loan clearing up in mid field then someone had the bright idea to tell him to join in the attack then it all went wrong, messed up a lot and left the mid field open.
If we had the same team as last season I would be worried too but wait till you see these new players in action, we have a new team we have a manager who wants to win an owner who wants to win and as Dalman said he can`t face another season like last time. If teams can go to Man City and win we can go to Leeds and win. If the team plays badly then we can start to worry.
I'm not worried. I said I didn't think we'd get relegated. I just dont think we'll get promoted. As for a manager who wants to win, do you think Morison or Hudson wanted to lose? I don't think you'll find a manager in any league who wants to lose. They all want to win. As will the other 23 managers and squads in our division. There's also more to a team than a group of individuals. Ramsey is a great player and could make a huge difference, IF the other players are on his wavelength and IF Bulut can integrate him into a team. Didn't happen when we had Bellamy first time round. I think the manager is a step in the right direction, that the signings to date are positive and that from the board to the tea lady, they all want to win. That doesn't make it happen. I feel quite positive about the coming season. I'm being realistic though.
Fair enough but consider the attack force we have now, too many managers want to win but play for a draw. Look at the Burnley game sat 5 yards off them allowing them to play the ball around safely in our half, is that a manager and players trying to win?
Promotion??? The target first is stay up. If we keep out of the bottom 8 that will be a job well done. Its a major rebuild thats needed after the squad Morison left. We need to clear out around 10 before we can build a squad to challenge.
We have a major rebuild. It does not matter if we get rid of players we don`t need as they will not be in the team. As far as promotion is concerned were you confident Malky and Warnock would do it?
