just looking again. gakpo must have toughed it out behind him. trent is distraught they can 20 somethings. laps or tikes or whatever. trents not half as fit as he thinks he is.
we are not anywhere near the fittedt team in the league. quite a few might have realised this and worked on it. but a lot are simply not that fit and it really showed last season in games where we were blown off the park by sides like brighton that's why I'm happy see someone come in and drop a major marker. it's great seeing lads like diaz working to compete.
We were a few seasons ago but definitely weren't last season, we fell a long way down the pecking order; I believe this is the reason we had such a poor season
Funny then that the lad from Brighton couldn't keep up. I'd bet on our top talent against any other team's top talent in a fitness challenge any day of the week. Edit: last season's performances were down to mental fatigue as much as anything else. We played utd off the park amidst them being hailed the best team of the moment.
well if you look back at those games we we totally blown off the ball. if you look back at the first utd game we were absolutely run off the ball if you look back at the bournemouth game we were bullied/ if you look back at arsenal games we were absolutely hanging on. If you look back at second city game we could not get near them 3 years ago sure why not? not not last year. they have work to do to get back near those levels.
So according to the Press, an update on our 'targets' Thuram- Interest ended. (Seems it was a toss up between him and Dom and Nice weren't being easy to deal with) Van De Ven- Interest ended Shuurs- Unlikely. (Looks like an agent using us to get the players name out and about) Lavia- High interest, price is a sticking point. Colwill- High interest, Chelsea are a sticking point That's all at the moment.
Don't forget that Milner is one of the fittest players in the league. Last year we had the 3rd, 4th and 5th fittest players in the league. It didn't translate into results - which I wasn't talking about btw. Fitness isn't all about the things you've just listed. If it was Milner would be outshining 99% of the opposition.
I wouldn't necessarily say slow but with stamina really works either. the high intensity, speedy teams that go all day blow us away. even Fulham day 1. we simply couldn't cope. look at the issues. trent, he doesn't track back why? he is blowing vvd, he's not running luke he used to and doesn't want to engage players as he is afraid of not getting there. jota. injuries. that really hurts firmino, not what he was and injured Henderson, injured but doesn't last 90 salah, not pressing as he used to. diaz, injured. lovely player but needs to work back up. the fittest player we have is robertson imo. the rest just don't look as fit as they used to be in prior years.
the strain of the previous season made worse by the short break between seasons has to be taken into account . This season will give a better representation of the players fitness levels
It seems to me that you're boiling fitness down to who can run the fastest. Have you seen the shape that Henderson has come back with? Obviously been working hard on his fitness as have several others. Anyway my original point was about AMA not being up to speed (irony alert) with just how fit our team is.
Said this all last year Even before when we were predicting I expect us to be way better this season Sadly I expect our competition to be a lot stronger too
Aw come on Jimbo, if both he and Milner are gone who are you going to be able to blame for everything?
Hendo and ‘adequate job’ don’t belong in the same sentence. I think people really don’t see how poor he has been. He has actually been a liability for us.
