The only defo is no one is going to Brid Trinity. They went out of business when Ken Richardson owned Brid Town and acted like a non league Dr Allam.
So why don't Brighton pay out his contract and we sign him? That's my point. There's no benefit to Brighton doing things this way, they aren't going to get a fee for him.
I don't begrudge selling Oscar for 8 figures. Taking a punt on someone and making a tidy profit is exactly how clubs like us stay afloat. Hopefully in the process some of those punts help us gain promotion.
Everyone (read: Brighton fans) I've asked says this is it, but if there's an option year then fair enough, that's the missing piece I wasn't understanding in the deal.
Has the Connolly interest actually been confirmed by a proper source yet or is this all still pie in the sky?
I would expect there would be extra costs and it wouldn’t just be a case of making up the difference. Loaning him is probably cheaper up front, don’t know if there’s any tax benefit/implications of one way vs the other either? It also gives them the option of extending his contract, regardless of having an extra year, if he’s scored 20 goals by January. It’s not a rare thing for players in their final year of contract to be loaned.
Loads of players go out on loan in their final year, can hardly think of many times they’ve been released instead.
Can you name a couple? I can't think of many, if any, unless it's with a view to a permanent with the club signing them (like Boyd for us).
