Don't mind some of his humour TBH (hence liking his books) but as for him having passion, you could say the same about an islamic state "soldier" who beheads an infidel for not believing in his brand of religion...
When passion can incite hate and whip up a frenzy it crosses a line for me, but each to their own when it comes to free speech.

Bit weird to compare Ben Elton to an Islamic state “soldier”. He’s never beheaded anyone or suggested it. Having strong views is fine.
