Had we batted properly on Thursday afternoon when we were 188-1 then we win the test match. Taking on teh short ball and throwing wickets away was a huge mistake especially when we knew Lyon was out of the match and the fast bowlers wouldn't have been abel to keep up the short ball barrage for long.
Correct. It was the end of an over and the square leg umpire was on the move. Technically out, but it's still planned cheating. They have a better team anyway, certainly in the bowling (AND catching which is the real reason we are two nil down), and they would probably have won anyway. But they can't help cheating. It's in their DNA, and all we know about is the stuff they get caught doing. Holier than thou Cummins is now bathed in his own ****.
Both Chappell brothers stretched rules well before Border mind. Greg was captain when he told his younger brother to bowl underarm.
Possibly true that. But the short pitched stuff, relentlessly used by both teams is hideously anti cricket, very negative and will turn way more people off than have turned on to watch lately. Appalling rubbish. But for me, the ridiculous amount of catches and chances missed is why we are two nil down. I've lost count.
Again, partly agree. But we have to accept that’s how we play. Sometimes it’ll be awesome to watch. First test it certainly was. Stokes did exactly the same in the second innings and got a ton. We just don’t leave the ball. Easy sitting here saying it, but the Australian team got out to the short ball by ducking and defending. Rather be caught in the deep or trying to score runs than fending off a bouncer
Yep. One or two shots played that just weren't on, but by and large attack when you can is fine by me. But however you play, if you miss as many chances as we do, you won't beat the best teams very often. It's been an issue for years, when we are regularly near the bottom for fielding stats.
Interesting article today in the Telegraph. Boycott, no soft arse, say Cummins should apologise " if he's man enough". He cites a near identical case. Mike Smith did the same as Bairstow at the end of an over, the square leg fielder run him out. South Africa captain, Trevor Goddard realised what had happened, got involved and reversed the appeal. Over to you Saint Patrick.
I'd love it if England win this 3-2 like, after the borderline cheating yesterday. Stokes didn't deserve to be on the losing team.
The Aussies don't care...they're laughing their cocks off. They want to beat the English,no matter what. There's nothing more important to them and they'll resort to any means to achieve it. Beating them by any means possible isn't as important to us as beating us by any means possible is to them.....and until we get that ingrained into our collective brains....we won't dominate the Ashes.
Fair enough. Keep it then! This is not a new development. Many journalists were amazed last time down under at the constant and extravagant swing Australia got . England got none. They're good bowlers, but even Hazelwood, who never really was known to swing, it was sending banana balls down.
Amongst the borderline cheating, there’s been actual cheating in the match too! Smith catch on Root in the first innings for instance. Smith knew he hadn’t caught it yet hurled the ball in the air. Labuschagne tried it too. Not to mention Starc.
Not to mention players seen putting stuff in their pockets during the lunch/tea intervals, Smith roughing up the pitch in a recent test. This sort of **** has been going on for years
shocking our player went out for that daft incident i watched it, the wicket keeper catches the ball our player walks 6 inches and gets 'stumped' out what a joke.
Just hearing some excusing being done on the radio earlier. But it comes down to this: Either it was a spur of the moment thing from Carey, which could be understandable possibly, but in which case Cummins should have taken charge, reversed the appeal, played on, no issue, look right, and probably still win anyway. Or it was a planned move. This looks likely inferring from interviews yesterday. In which case it must have involved Carey, Cummins as captain and Smith as vice, who we already know has form for getting others to do his cheating for him. Same old Aussies. A very bad look indeed, as Jim Maxwell has said, and if I hadn't seen it, I'd take his word before just about anyone.
Maxwell I a lovely bloke. Proper cricket bod. Saud himself it should be rescinded. But he obviously knows little to nothing about this current Australia side!
He's superb is Maxwell. He got off the best line I've ever heard in cricket commentary. I was at the Ashes match in Chester le Stret, and had one of those things in one ear listening to the radio. England were batting early in the second innings and Jim is on commentary. "In comes Siddle, bowling to Trott, one of the three verbs at the top of the English batting order." Priceless! Could only have come from Jim Maxwell.
Maxwell is starting believe his own hype. This nonsence around the shipping forecast is getting boring, then calling out Jonny Bairstow for being overweight just isn't on Turning into yet another myopic Aussie
