But then he’s not getting 2/3 an over if he’s just surviving.

You can’t say you want broad and stokes to be getting 3/4 single an over and then say I’m sure Broad could survive blocking out an over in which he’ll get no runs. Then stokes gets a single off day 1 and what? He then survives another 5 blocking?

when there's 1 or 2 early then take them and put pressure on.

stokes was limiting himself to 1 and over or a hack for 6.

Whata the alternative though? Take 1 from first ball and hope B-road either survives 5 in a row (lot harder as can actually set up with a plan) or he plays a **** through the infield to get 1/2 or a boundary?

Should always do what your opponent doesn’t want. And australia wanted stokes to take a single from ball 1

Well given they got within 40 nearly they could have taken the singles and had bazzball faith in themselves

better than closing eyes and swinging in the one direction you couldn't afford to.

Or broad could have been bowled next delivery and everyone says why the hell could you take a single off ball 1?!

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing

or stokes could have been caught by Smith first time and that's that.

we can't be hearing bazzball this and that then see total lack of brains first innings and then one guy make a massive difference bitneveryone esle then hacks away exactly the same way.

bazzball is meant to be positive not doing stupid things and sadly they just did for too many stupid things over the two innings.

so many of the wickets were thrown away

It'll be interesting to see the reception the Ozzies get at Headingly, especially as it was Bairstow

yeah, I see no mention of the catch that was a catch but rubbed on the ground

there were a lot of mistakes made in the game by different players and a lot of things that could have gone differently.

in the end England struggled to get Australia out due to a lack of pace in the bowling and imo that was the main difference there was only a few runs in it once the heroics were done on both sides.

    England couldn't get them out.

a lot of the bowling looks quite slow.

it's very obvious on the replay that Carey was watching him and threw it instantly.

is it the equivalent of catching the guy at the non strike end out if his ground? maybe.

    is it legal? absolutely

Is it cricket? is grilling a lad in the nut with the ball? I think there's a lot of very precious people on about fair play

nobody has called the outrageous rubbish put of peitersen claiming lyon could be out there to take a head shot and claim concussion.

    pressure does funny things.

It's embarrassing. Apart from the fact that we did it to NZ some time ago, had Bairstow done that to the Aussies, especially had it been Smith or Warner, he'd have been cheered to the rafters and carried on the shoulders of his teammates through a rapturous Long Room. :emoticon-0119-puke:

    Totally different.

De Grandhomme, it hit his pads and went straight to Pope. CDG came down the wicket looking for a run, but CDG hesitated before turning back outside of the crease as England were claiming lbw. Pope threw down and hit the stumps as CDG was slowly turning back to his crease.

There was no suggestion that the ball was dead or it was the end of the over in that situation and it was a Run out not a Stumping. CDG had left his crease as the ball was clearly still live and he obviously thought it was live too hence looking for the run and attempting to make up his ground.

Whatever you think of the Bairstow one, lets not compare apples and oranges

    England roll the dice.

a few changes, some of which will be preplanned due to timing.

Wood, woakes and alli are in. trout and Anderson are out.

bairstow sticks as wicket keeper. (bad call)

Brooks shoved up thr order as sacrificial lamb.

Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Harry Brook, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson.

can this line up take wickets?

I know its a bit unfair to pope but in theory here there's no real loss in batting depth if you are playing close yer eyes and swing.

In reality the top order is in trouble as you are sending out a talented lad whos really a short format player to bat at 3 in the biggest test games. he will be under pressure.

It'll be interesting to see if the bowling has more pace and zip here.

badly missing zip and pace in our bolwing has finally arrived.

Robinson and Anderson were half paced n te last two tests.

the problem now is you've a very medium pace form Robinson coming in now thats giving aussies an easy time.
